Uh Oh: Rising Democrat Star Could Ruin Biden’s 2024 Re-Election Plans
There’s a new Democrat “star” governor in town…and no, it’s not “Greasy” Gavin Newsom. Rather, it’s the current governor of Maryland, a Democrat named Wes Moore. Moore was just sworn into office Wednesday morning, but he has already rocketed to the top of the Democrats’ list of potential 2024 candidates as they scrounge for anyone other than President “Slow” Joe Biden to run.
Why the Democrats might want someone other than Joe is obvious: the economy is looking increasingly ready to crash, the inflation crisis has been painful for most Americans, the foreign disasters, particularly Afghanistan, were painful moments his presidency, and his brain rarely seems like it’s working.
Further, why they’d want to replace Joe with Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland is obvious too. First off, and likely most importantly for that race-obsessed party, is that Gov. Moore is black. So Democrats can get diversity points with their woke wing by running him in 2024.
Beyond that, he looks like he might be less intolerable to the average American than the other man waiting in the wings, Gavin Newsom. He doesn’t look like a Bond villain, isn’t from the wokest state in the union, and has tried to seem less insane than the rest of his party.
Reporting on his relative moderation when compared to other Democrat candidates and how those less-wacko policies make him someone that the Democrats are boosting and want to push heading into 2024, the Daily Caller reported that:
Moore’s military service, success in the finance industry, fundraising successes and connections to career-making donors have captured the attention of the Democratic party, as has his apparent bipartisan appeal, according to Bloomberg. Moore’s campaign emphasized crime and the economy, talking points typically preferred by Republicans, while he has also attracted several high profile Democratic donors.
The new governor was raised in poverty and went on to serve as a U.S. Army captain and paratrooper in Afghanistan, according to Bloomberg. He was also a Rhodes scholar, a prestigious position also granted to former President Bill Clinton.
He also doesn’t have a crackhead son selling information and influence to Red China, which is another advantage when he’s compared to Biden…though whether he has crates of classified documents in his garage is yet to be discovered.
Further, Moore’s boosters are doing their best to drum up excitement about him much as DeSantis’ boosters are doing for him. Two quotes excerpted from the Bloomberg piece show that well. In one, a political scientist at the University of Maryland, Chryl Laird, said “I was like, ‘He’s giving Obama.’ He could have a good run at a time when the Democratic party has to be thinking about their young talent.” In another, a Wall Street exec and Moore donor, Ray McGuire, said “There is no ceiling for Wes Moore,Wes Moore has demonstrated the rare and unique ability to exist where the air is thin and the oxygen is limited.”
Moore for his part, told Bloomberg “I’m humbled by the fact that people are paying attention to what took place in this race. I mean, we won Democrats, we won independents, we won a big chunk of Republicans. So it’s humbling that people are paying attention to what we just pulled off.”
So, if things keep heading in this direction, 2024 is shaping up to be a battle of the boosted, semi-moderate governors: DeSantis vs. Moore.
