Venezuelan Opposition Leader Gives Her Nobel Peace Prize To Trump
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado said she handed President Donald Trump her Nobel Peace Prize as a gesture of gratitude, crediting him with helping bring down Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
“He deserves it,” Machado told “FOX & Friends Weekend” co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy. “It was a very emotional moment.”
Machado said she presented the prize on behalf of the Venezuelan people, arguing Trump’s actions went far beyond her country and reshaped the balance of power in the region.
“[Venezuelans] appreciate so much what he has done for, not only the freedom of the Venezuelan people, but I would say the whole hemisphere,” she said.
A longtime Maduro opponent, Machado has openly supported Trump’s move to remove the socialist strongman, calling it a historic decision that justified the recognition.
Trump acknowledged the moment publicly and praised Machado.
“It was my Great Honor to meet María Corina Machado, of Venezuela, today,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “María presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done. Such a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”
Machado previously floated the idea of formally transferring the prize during an appearance on “Hannity,” but the Norwegian Nobel Institute rejected the move last week.
“Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time,” the institute said.
With a formal transfer barred, Machado opted to gift the prize symbolically.
Donald Trump has repeatedly argued he is overdue for Nobel recognition, citing his record on ending conflicts.
“You know, when you put out eight wars, in theory, you should get one for each war,” he told Fox News.
Machado also described her recent visit to the White House, where she met with Trump less than two weeks after Maduro’s capture.
“It went very well,” she said. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity I had to speak with President Trump. Something I’ve been looking forward for a very long time.”
“It was a huge responsibility because I did it on behalf of the Venezuelan people,” she added.
