Emotions ran high outside the Collin County Courthouse on Monday after a Texas jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, with video from the scene showing heated confrontations breaking out among members of the crowd.
Anthony, who was charged in connection with the deadly stabbing at a Frisco high school track meet in April 2025, was convicted after jurors deliberated for roughly three hours. The verdict brought an end to a closely watched trial that drew national attention and generated intense debate over Anthony’s claim that he acted in self-defense.
As news of the guilty verdict spread, tensions quickly escalated outside the courthouse where supporters of both Anthony and Metcalf had gathered throughout the proceedings. Videos circulating on social media showed individuals shouting at one another, arguing over the jury’s decision, and engaging in several physical altercations as law enforcement officers worked to maintain order.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as opposing groups exchanged insults and accusations moments after the verdict was announced. Several confrontations appeared to require intervention from deputies and courthouse security personnel, who remained stationed around the area throughout the day.

Prosecutors argued that Anthony was the aggressor in the confrontation that led to Metcalf’s death, while defense attorneys maintained that their client feared for his safety and acted in self-defense during the encounter.
According to testimony presented during the trial, the incident occurred during a high school track meet when Anthony entered an area occupied by members of another school’s team. Prosecutors alleged that Anthony refused requests to leave before a confrontation with Metcalf escalated into violence.
Multiple witnesses testified that Anthony produced a knife and stabbed Metcalf during the altercation. Defense attorneys challenged portions of the prosecution’s account and argued that Anthony believed he was facing a threat when the confrontation turned physical.
