VIDEO: Nick Shirley Attacked By Migrants
Independent journalist Nick Shirley was attacked while reporting from Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in North Africa that has become a flashpoint in Europe’s growing migrant crisis.
Video shared online by Mike Cernovich appeared to show Shirley being swarmed and assaulted while documenting the chaos in the border city, where thousands of migrants have poured in from Morocco.
The footage quickly spread through conservative circles, with viewers pointing to it as another example of the danger facing journalists who report from the front lines of mass migration.
Ceuta sits on the northern coast of Africa and is controlled by Spain, making it one of the European Union’s most sensitive border zones.
The city has been under severe strain after a major migrant surge left authorities struggling to process, house and control thousands of people who crossed into the tiny territory.
Reuters reported Monday that hundreds of migrants had set up camp on a beach in Ceuta as local officials worked to deal with the aftermath of the border rush.
The crisis has turned the enclave into a symbol of what critics call Europe’s failed border policies.
For conservatives, Shirley’s video showed the reality that polished government statements often leave out.
Border pressure is not an abstract policy debate when reporters, police and residents are standing in the middle of it.

It is bodies moving through streets, exhausted authorities trying to regain control and tempers flaring in a city too small to absorb the shock.
Shirley has built a following by confronting controversial immigration stories directly, often traveling to locations where officials and legacy media outlets prefer softer language.
His reporting style has made him a frequent target of critics on the left, but it has also made his videos widely shared among conservatives who believe the public is being misled about illegal migration.
The Ceuta incident came as Spanish and Moroccan officials faced new pressure over how the mass crossing unfolded and how many migrants remain in the enclave.
Morocco has said it is committed to working with international partners to combat irregular migration and human trafficking.
But the images coming out of Ceuta have raised fresh questions about border control, public safety and whether European governments are prepared for sudden migration surges.
No official police charging information tied to the attack on Shirley was immediately confirmed in available reports.
