VIDEO: Socialist Senate Candidate Calls For GOP Opponent To Be Jailed

Florida State Rep. Angie Nixon, a self-styled socialist who is currently the Democratic Party nominee for U.S. Senate in Florida, called for her Republican opponent, Senator Ashley Moody, to be jailed in a recent CNN interview.

The comments were made during an appearance on CNN’s The Arena with host Kasie Hunt. While flanked by Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), Nixon called for Moody to be jailed over political financing matters.

“The fact remains that Ashley Moody is a lying, cheating, thieving, scamming person who basically took $10 million from sick kids for the Medicaid program. And she rerouted that into two political slush funds for Ron DeSantis to defeat two citizen-led ballot initiatives. She also voted to end healthcare for over 440,000 people here in the state of Florida,” Nixon said.

She appeared to be speaking in reference to an instance in which funds from a nonprofit founded by Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis were repurposed for political matters. A grand jury reviewed the matter and found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

At the time, Moody was serving as Florida’s attorney general.

Nixon went on to reference Republican advertising over her past support for reducing prison populations and other “criminal justice reform” initiatives. “And, you know, they are spreading a lot of disinformation and lies on commercials about me saying things like I want to abolish prisons and I want to defund the police — why would I want to do that when I want her locked up and punished in jail for what she has done?” Nixon stated as Murphy smirked and nodded along.

“You want your Republican opponent locked up?” a visibly stunned Hunt followed up. “You know, she — yeah. Basically, yes. Because of what she did. Yes. I absolutely would want that to happen. Yes,” Nixon responded.

Nixon has made similar statements previously. At an August 30 rally in Hollywood, Florida, she said Moody, Governor Ron DeSantis, and Attorney General James Uthmeier belonged in jail, describing Moody as “a thief” who “stole $10 million” from “low-income and medically needy children.”

In the CNN interview, she also referenced a recent appeals court decision as “corruption through and through” and said she would call for a full investigation as a U.S. senator.
