Virginia Education Dept. Makes Statement Concerning Removal Of Washington, Madison Language From Curriculum
On Tuesday, the Virginia Department of Education quickly issued a correction after reports began circulating that the agency was planning on removing language that identified George Washington as the “Father of Our Country,” and James Madison as the “Father of the Constitution.”
According to the report from Just the News, the situation started after Virginia/Washington ABC affiliate WJLA put out a report that said the agency had decided to put forth a proposal that would make “changes to Virginia’s history and social science standards of learning tests [that] would eliminate calling George Washington the ‘Father of our Country’ and James Madison the ‘Father of the Constitution.’ ”
Now, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to hear this kind of language being removed from a school’s curriculum, given how much the progressives out there really, really hate the founders of our country and are just dying to do a little historical revisionism to tarnish their reputations and by extension their values and belief systems.
The agency is now going to be meeting on Wednesday of this week to look over the state standards of testing, which is something the VDOE does every seven years.
Here’s more from Just the News:
Yet following the WJLA’s report, the agency told the news station that the proposed deletion of that language from state standards was an “error” and there was not anything its itinerary to that effect.
“This was inadvertent – something that was supposed to be done but wasn’t – in making updates and edits to a 400-plus page document,” the department said to WJLA, claiming that the language would be moved to a different section of the state curriculum instead of being deleted.
As the news station noted, the state Board of Education, which will ultimately consider the proposed revisions, is made up of a potentially volatile mix of appointees from the last three Virginia gubernatorial administrations—those of Terry McAuliffe and Ralph Northam, both Democrats, and current Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a Republican.
This will be the first time the board has met since Youngkin appointed the vast majority of the members that make up the board.
At the end of the day, it’s critical that we protect our nation’s history. This history enables us to remember who we are, what values our nation was founded upon, and that we once were held to as an entire group of people. The left wants to erase all of that from the picture.
Progressives want future generations to have no clue what the truth is about their own culture, their own society. Because they want to tear this society and culture to the ground and rebuild one in the image of Karl Marx. That’s hard to do when you have people clinging to values of freedom and liberty as taught by our founders.
Sure, the founders weren’t perfect. No human being is. But they were an amazing generation of men who understood how critical freedom, both social and economical, is to having a free society. Their dreams for our country’s future should be our dreams too.
And that would be the worst enemy, the top villain, of everything the progressive hopes to accomplish.
Be aware of the history your kids are being taught in school, folks. It matters.
