Vivek Ramaswamy Will Boycott Colorado’s GOP Primary In Protest Of Decision To Disqualify Trump From Ballot
Businessman and surging Republican presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy has vowed to boycott Colorado’s Republican primary in protest of the shocking state supreme court decision to disqualify the former president from the 2024 general election ballot.
In an unprecedented 4-3 ruling, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump is ineligible under the 14th Amendment, a Civil War era statute that bars “former officers” of the United States who have engaged in “rebellion” or “insurrection” from running for office. Far-left legal groups have sought to disqualify Trump from the ballot in a number of states, including Colorado, but to no avail.
The former president is also not being charged with carrying out an insurrection in his January 6 indictment, nor has he ever been convicted of anything, though this did not stop the court from issuing the ruling. Trump has vowed to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, which is already reviewing a key facet of Smith’s indictment.
In a lengthy X post, Vivek Ramaswamy slammed the decision as an attack on American democracy and vowed to boycott Colorado’s Republican primary in protest of the ruling. “This is what an *actual* attack on democracy looks like: in an un-American, unconstitutional, and *unprecedented* decision, a cabal of Democrat judges are barring Trump from the ballot in Colorado,” Ramaswamy wrote.
“Having tried every trick in the book to eliminate President Trump from running in this election, the bipartisan Establishment is now deploying a new tactic to bar him from ever holding office again: the 14th Amendment,” he continued. “I pledge to *withdraw* from the Colorado GOP primary unless Trump is also allowed to be on the state’s ballot, and I demand that Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, and Nikki Haley to do the same immediately – or else they are tacitly endorsing this illegal maneuver which will have disastrous consequences for our country.”
Though he is running against former President Trump in the Republican primary, Ramaswamy has frequently condemned leftist lawfare and called on his colleagues to do the same. After Trump was indicted for the second time on charges of mishandling classified documents, Ramaswamy traveled to the courthouse in Florida and vowed to pardon Trump if he is convicted.
He then called on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and other Republican presidential hopefuls to do the same.
This is a developing story.
