WATCH: 100-Year-Old WW2 Vet Says Britain Has Gotten Worse In Heartbreaking Clip
Alec Penstone, a 100-year-old Royal Navy veteran who fought in World War II, is going viral worldwide over a heartbreaking interview in which he lamented the decline of his country and asked whether the sacrifice was worth it.
Penstone saw extensive action during World War II, including during the D-Day landings, when he was aboard the HMS Campania. He joined “Good Morning Britain” ahead of Remembrance Day this Sunday, when he and millions across the British Commonwealth will don the poppy to commemorate all the soldiers who have died since the First World War.
“My message is, I can see in my mind’s eye, rows and rows of white stones, of all the hundreds of my friends and everybody else, that gave their lives – for what?” he tearfully told the hosts when asked for his thoughts on this Remembrance Day. “The country of today… No, I’m sorry, the sacrifice wasn’t worth the result that it is now.”
“What do you mean by that, though?” one host then asked.
“What we fought for was our freedom – we fought for it. Even now, it’s a darn sight worse than when I fought for it,” Penstone replied. The other co-host then tried to comfort the veteran.
“I’m so sorry you feel like that, because I want you to know that all the generations that have come since, including me and my children, are so grateful for your bravery,” she declared. “It’s our job now, isn’t it, to make it the country that you fought for.”
Penstone then thanked the hosts for their comments while holding back tears.
Penstone’s comments went viral not only in Britain but across the western world, with many regrettably agreeing with him due to widespread demographic change caused by unlimited third-world immigration, declining standards of living and the rise of authoritarian “hate speech” laws that often only apply to indigenous Europeans.
“Nothing sums up modern Britain better than a WW2 veteran lamenting what our country has become, being patronised by a woman who married an architect of Blair’s government and a man who said yesterday that he wants Sharia Law,” British right-wing commentator said of Penstone’s comments and the hosts asking the questions.
“This man fought for his country. Today he looks around and sees that it has surrendered itself to a third world Islamic invasion. Men like him — white men who built his country — are demonized and scapegoated,” added Daily Wire contributor Matt Walsh. “And while Arab migrants rape and kill in the streets, the government focuses its energies on arresting people who say insulting things about trannies on the internet. A travesty of historic proportions.”
“Poor guy doesn’t even realize his worst enemies are sitting right in front of him,” remarked another American commentator.
“The generations that benefitted from this man’s sacrifice, and so many others like him, have so squandered our inheritance that he no longer believes it was worth it,” Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet wrote on X. “That’s the gut punch the West deserves. We either will rise up and remember ourselves, or we will belong to the dust of history.”
