In an interview with CNN, Joe Biden underscored his commitment and the potential risks surrounding Ukraine’s accession to NATO amidst the ongoing conflict in the region.

His comments revealed not only a lack of consensus among NATO member nations but also the potential for a drastic escalation of tension with Russia.

Biden said, “I don’t think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war.” Most significantly, Biden acknowledged the potential risk of war with Russia should Ukraine join NATO during the ongoing conflict.

He explained, “If you did that, then, you know, we, I, and I mean what I say, we’re determined to commit every inch of territory that is NATO territory. It’s a commitment that we’ve all made no matter what. If the war is going on, then we’re all in the war. You know, we’re in war with Russia if that were the case.”
