President Joe Biden spun a sunny message on late-night TV Monday, telling viewers that America’s economy is among the best in the world and that he will keep it that way. Meanwhile, in between his own gaffes, he claimed his chief rival can’t even remember his wife’s name.

Speaking with host Seth Meyers, the Democratic incumbent rebuffed criticisms of his advanced age which recent polls show are shared by most Americans.

“How do you address that concern to the voters?” Meyers asked him.

“A couple things. Number one, you gotta take a look at the other guy. He’s about as old as I am, but he can’t remember his wife’s name,” Biden quipped, prompting cheers from the liberal audience.

“Number two, it’s about how old your ideas are. Look, this is a guy who wants to take us back. He wants to take us back on Roe v. Wade. He wants to take us back a whole range of issues… Everything we’ve gotten done, he wants to do away with if he gets elected,” he added.

Conservative commentator Bennie Johnson was quick to remind followers about the time that President Biden confused his own wife and sister during a campaign rally.

Asked about what his agenda is for a second term, Biden again confused the present with the past, telling Meyers, “the 2020 agenda is to finish the job.”

Yet in the face of polls showing the majority of Americans, and even members of his own party showing deep dissatisfaction with Biden, the 81-year-old is more optimistic than ever about his prospects.

“Every single crisis we’ve ever, ever, ever been in we’ve come out stronger,” he told the audience. “People step up and look what’s happened. We’ve got the best economy in the world now. We’ve got a long way to go, but the best in the world now, and we’re going to get it better.”

According to a Gallup poll conducted in January, 63% of Americans say rising prices and inflation are a serious hardship of peak concern heading into the 2024 election.

Following the release of a devastating report on Biden’s handling of classified documents that called into question his mental acuity, the White House has hustled to present the president as a steady, engaged leader who has not diminished with age. However, a press conference held immediately after the release of the report saw President Biden confuse the names of world leaders he has spoken with in recent years, some of whom are dead. He snapped at a reporter who asked about claims that his memory is poor, replying, “My memory is so bad that I let you speak.”
