WATCH: Biden Malfunctions During Speech In Finland: ‘The Daughter Of Ireland’

It comes as no surprise that the gaffe-prone president made yet another gaffe today. This one came during President Biden’s trip to Finland where he attempted to read from a prepared script and made a gaffe doing so. This trip to Finland, the most recent member of NATO, came in turn after a NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.


During his speech in the capital of Finland, Helsinki, Biden paid tribute to the various Nordic leaders there. He began by acknowledging “[Prime Minister] Frederiksen of Denmark and…the daughter of Ireland.” Biden to his credit realized his slip up by saying “the daughter of Ireland- you can tell that is a Freudian slip, I am thinking of home [Biden’s ancestry is Irish].” He corrected himself “the daughter of Iceland.” He then remarked that he thought “we had a very productive summit.”

Reactions by Twitter users to the slip-up were less forgiving. Bill noted that “The look from the Prime Minister of Finland is priceless.”

Similarly, Kimberly remarked that “Look at the PM’s face…How embarrassing.”

Patrick wrote that the daughter of Ireland/Iceland is “not gonna be happy with his handlers.”

One user remarked that “This leads to some serious concerns about his eligibility to be president. I don’t mean his cognitive decline. I mean his birthplace.”

Z 28.310 was referencing that Biden regarded Ireland as his home rather than the United States.

The RNC Research Twitter page claimed that “Biden departs his “press conference” [in Finland] after calling on two pre-selected reporters. He still has not answered questions about the cocaine scandal in his White House.”

This claim appears to stem from Biden looking down at a piece of paper before calling on reporters to ask him questions during the press conference. This motion can be observed here.

This led one Twitter user to say “Remember all of those times Democrat presidents were caught planting questions with reporters? Yeah that never changed this one is just too senile to remember which reporters without a written list.”

Biden has been known for having cheat sheets of journalists to call on and even having pre-screened their questions. His White House press secretary has defended this practice by saying “It is entirely normal for a president to be briefed on reporters who will be asking questions at a press conference, and issues that we expect they might ask about.” If he did have the questions that pre-selected journalists would ask that the RNC Research channel captured an embarrassing moment for Biden when he forgot the second half of a question.
