WATCH: Blinken Grilled Over Alleged Laptop Disinformation Campaign Protecting Hunter Biden
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Monday denied asking for a subterfuge letter declaring the infamous Hunter Biden laptop was the product of Russian disinformation.
Sitting for an exclusive interview with Fox News, Blinken said the letter, which was signed by more than 50 former intelligence officers, “wasn’t my idea, didn’t ask for it, didn’t solicit it” as he sought to distance the Biden administration from the swirling controversy.

Blinken’s claim is at odds with testimony by former CIA Director Mike Morell who last month told the House Judiciary Committee that Blinken, a former campaign advisor to Biden, reached out to him suggesting Hunter Biden’s laptop was part of a “disinformation campaign” intended to cost President Joe Biden the 2020 election. Morell said he went on to orchestrate the letter because he wanted to “help Vice President Biden … because I wanted him to win the election.”
Asked if he agreed that the laptop, which contained a trove of communications between Hunter Biden and his father, was in fact not disinformation, Secretary Blinken maintained that as the United States’ top diplomat, he’s not “engaging in politics” and refused to comment further.
Earlier he suggested that Morell’s testimony exonerated him from any involvement.
In the final days of the 2020 campaign, President Donald Trump attempted to use the discovery of the laptop as an “October surprise” with which to claim that Biden as Vice President allowed his son to participate in nefarious overseas business dealings. No illegal activity was ever proven, though House Republicans continue to investigate Hunter Biden’s representation of foreign companies attempting to gain access to America’s halls of power. The FBI previously subpoenaed the laptop as it investigated Hunter Biden over a potential money laundering scheme.
House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Oh.) has called on Secretary Blinken to testify before his committee, demanding the Biden official detail all communications and documents regarding the formation of the letter.
