WATCH: Blue City Resident Ruins CNN Reporter’s Narrative, Backs Trump
A CNN reporter seeking to poke holes in President Donald Trump’s assertion that blue cities are under siege by violent criminals got a dose of reality from a Chicago resident who said that she is excited about the possibility of federal help to make city streets safer.
When a network correspondent pulled one woman aside to ask for her thoughts on Trump’s suggestion that he’ll “probably” send the National Guard into Chicago, the result may have been exactly the opposite of what the reporter thought would happen.
“My first reaction is that this is a good thing,” said the woman.
“The governor as well as the mayor should be on board with [deploying troops], just so we can get a bit more of security in Chicago,” she continued.
Challenged about statistics suggesting that violent crime has declined across Chicago over the past year, the woman said she and her friends don’t see those figures reflected in their daily lives.
“Do you feel safer?” the CNN reporter asked.
“No, not at all,” she replied. “Especially with the police being defunded.”

Trump has seen steady growth in Chicago since first being elected in 2016. Although he has consistently lost the city by a large margin, his support has grown significantly over time, reaching 21.85% in 2024, up from 12.41% in 2016, according to CBS Chicago.
Overall, 189,170 Chicago voters cast their ballots for Trump last year, an increase of 53,853 votes since 2016. Kamala Harris significantly underperformed both Hillary Clinton and former President Joe Biden there, the outlet noted.
As federal intervention in Washington, D.C. continues to yield progress on lowering instances of violent crime, Trump has mused about the possibility of similar takeovers. Earlier this year, he deployed thousands of National Guard troops to Los Angeles to quell riots that began following raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker have gone on the offensive, decrying Trump as a “dictator” for suggesting he can take over the police services of another major metropolitan area.
During an appearance on MSNBC, Johnson sparred with “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough about whether he would admit that having 5,000 police officers added to Chicago’s streets would make the city safer.
Abigail Jackson, a spokeswoman for the White House, fired back at Gov. Pritzker on Tuesday, accusing the 2028 presidential aspirant of ignoring Chicago’s rising crime rates.
“If these Democrats spent half as much time addressing crime in their cities as they did going on cable news to complain about President Trump, their residents would be a lot safer,” she told Fox News.
Fox Chicago reported on Tuesday that more illegal guns are confiscated in Chicago than in Los Angeles and New York City combined.
