WATCH: Blue State Governor Viciously Booed At Ryder Cup Repeatedly

A chilly reception blew through the opening ceremony of the 2025 Ryder Cup on Wednesday when New York Gov. Kathy Hochul was practically booed out of the venue.

The Democrat, who is up for reelection in 2026, arrived in Long Island to kick off the matchup between U.S. and European players. Very quickly, however, Hochul was on defense in a match of her own against a hostile hometown crowd.

Even jokes by host Carson Daly wouldn’t quell a motley crowd of New Yorkers eager to see Hochul leave the corner office at the end of her first term.

“You’re the worst!” one attendee was heard shouting.

Daly attempted to the lighten the mood, asking attendees to give a round of applause to Team USA. Many obliged, at least until Hochul began to stroll off the stage.

“That went well,” Daly quipped.

“Get outta here, Kathy,” another golf fan screamed.

GOP Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who is seriously mulling a challenge to Hochul, jumped on the embarrassing public appearance.

“FIRE HOCHUL,” the Republican tweeted. “SAVE NEW YORK.”

Hochul’s office sidestepped the controversy in a statement to the NY Post.

“Governor Hochul is proud to bring three elite golf tournaments to New York over the next decade,” a spokesperson said.

“The Governor remains committed to ensuring a world-class experience for the more than 250,000 spectators who will enjoy Bethpage State Park and all the region has to offer in the years ahead.”

Long Island is a red bastion in one of the bluest cities in America. The borough has grown only more so in President Donald Trump’s second term, and voters there are represented by two Republican congressmen at the federal level, Nick LaLota (R-NY) and Andrew Garabino (R-NY).

A poll released in May showed Hochul and Stefanik in a neck-and-neck race. Only 43% of New Yorkers said they would vote to re-elect Hochul compared to 42% who sided with Stefanik, a disastrous result for the Democratic incumbent who took over from disgraced Andrew Cuomo in 2023. About 15% of likely voters are undecided, according to the right-leaning survey on a hypothetical 2026 race.

And if the GOP field for governor becomes crowded, Stefanik would hold the edge: 56% of GOP primary voters opted for the congresswoman over lesser-known alternatives, such as Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, both of whom are reportedly considering bids. Each received 9% and 8%, respectively.

Just 30% hold a favorable opinion of Hochul, while 57% disapproved, the poll of 1,163 voters found. President Trump fared much better, receiving 44% favorable opinions and 49% unfavorable,

“Hochul’s re-elect score further highlights her inherent vulnerability,” said Co/efficient pollster Ryan Munce.
