WATCH: Chuck Todd Makes Stunning Admission About Media Coverup Of Biden’s Decline
Former “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd made a stunning, but perhaps unsurprising about the mainstream media’s role in covering up former President Biden’s cognitive decline.
Todd served as host of the long-running Sunday show from 2014 through 2023, when he give up hosting duties to Kristen Welker in order to take a less upfront role in NBC’s newsroom. Todd, like many mainstream media hosts, took a hard line against the Trump Administration during the president’s first term in office, which earned him his very own nickname from Trump in “Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd.”
In January of this year, Todd left NBC Universal entirely in order to pursue independent endeavors.
While appearing on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” earlier this week, Todd defended and even praised the mainstream media’s refusal to cover President Biden’s cognitive decline. “I sit here and I’ll defend a little bit of this in that I would argue the reason people were able to come to their own conclusion on Joe Biden is because of the media coverage,” he said.
Todd went on to claim the media was in fact covering Biden’s decline in a “subtle” way by pointing out he was using the short staircase on the back of Air Force One, refusing to do sit-down interviews and so on. “So there was this reluctance to the draw the conclusion to say, is he not doing this? And that I agree with. That was that was held back held back a lot,” the former NBC host added.
Again defending the media’s reputation, Todd claimed that former President Ronald Reagan also showed visible signs of cognitive decline that were not covered fully. After again claiming that some members of the mainstream press did take a more critical look at the Biden Administration, Todd then said the quiet part out loud in reference to the gentle coverage of the former president.
“You know there were some of that, but I understand the argument about the collective. On that front, the only thing I can chalk it up to is this, whatever you want to call it, this fear that some members of the media had sometimes that they would be perceived as helping Trump if they somehow diminished Biden,” Todd said.
“Right? That it was some sort of zero-sum game and I think this has been the fundamental mistake that many members of the traditional press have done.”
In the months and weeks leading up to Biden’s disastrous debate performance last June, mainstream media outlets, including NBC News, accused critics of spreading “misinformation” by using “doctored” videos of the president’s decline. In one instance, CBS News claimed that a video of Biden being helped off a stage by former President Barack Obama was a “cheap fake.”
CBS News legal correspondent Jan Crawford admitted that President Biden’s cognitive decline was “underreported” by prominent media outlets in the network’s year end round-up, calling it the most “underreported and under-covered” story of the year.
“We should have much more forcefully questioned whether he was fit for office for another four years, which could have led to a primary for the Democrats. It could have changed the scope of the entire election,” she said. “Yet still, incredibly, we read in the Washington Post that his advisors are saying that he regrets that he dropped out of the race. You know that he thinks he could have beaten Trump and I think that is either delusional or they’re gaslighting.”
