WATCH: CNN Analyst Admits Minneapolis Shooting Was ‘Legally Justified’

CNN law enforcement analyst Steve Moore said during Friday’s broadcast of  “The Story Is” that he now believes the fatal ICE-involved shooting of Renee Nicole Good was “likely a legally justified shooting” after previously saying otherwise.

Moore told host Elex Michaelson that he made the determination after viewing a new angle of the shooting, which was filmed by the ICE agent who was forced to open fire. The new angle shows the agent standing directly in front of the car when Good looks directly at him before accelerating forward, clearly striking him.

Multiple angles of the incident show the agent being struck, though Moore explained that the new angle is by far the most definitive.

“Up until this point, I wasn’t absolutely ready to come out and say that this, in my opinion, was probably a good shoot or not a good shoot. There was so much out there, and you just couldn’t tell. This one leads me to believe that this was likely a legally justified shooting,” the law enforcement analyst said.

“Legally justified means that a reasonable law enforcement officer — not a reasonable person on the street — but a trained law enforcement officer, believed that they were in imminent danger of losing their life or suffering grievous bodily injuries. It doesn’t have to be lethal force if it paralyzes you,” he continued. “That’s the type of thing. So, I believe, at that point, the officer was likely — and a reasonable investigation will find that the officer was within the deadly force policy.”

Renee Nicole Good, 37, in the moments leading up to the shooting

Good, 37, was part of an organized “ICE Watch” group geared towards following federal agents and obstructing federal immigration operations. In the moments leading up to the shooting, she was using her Honda Pilot to block ICE vehicles as they conducted operations in South Minneapolis.

When agents approached her vehicle and gave her a lawful command to exit, Good’s lesbian partner shouted “drive, drive, drive!” Good then looked directly at the agent and accelerated forward, prompting him to fire multiple shots, one of which entered through the vehicle’s front windshield and struck her in the head.

Moore also reacted to the ongoing unrest in Minneapolis, which saw mobs of leftist rioters storm hotels and assault staff throughout the night Friday. Rioters had heard rumors that ICE agents were staying in the targeted hotels and set up an “autonomous zone” not far from the shooting site.

The law enforcement analyst expressed his disbelief with Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, who was personally chased away from the scene by an angry mob. He noted the distinct lack of a police presence prior to the situation devolving into a riot.

After pointing out that the group of agitators was much smaller than the protests observed in 2020, Moore stated that he was “floored” by the fact that “for at least a half an hour and and by my count closer to an hour, we didn’t see any Minneapolis Police Department officers there. None.”

He added, “And so my feeling on this is that you couldn’t have that crowd at a hotel trying to enter the hotel, disturbing the peace for hundreds of people around there and have the police not know about it. This was the police, in my opinion, ignoring it. There wasn’t a single police car for about a half an hour. And that’s not an accident.”
