WATCH: CNN Panel Admits Trump Is Crushing It On Key Issue: ‘Promises Made, Promises Kept’
CNN’s Abby Phillip gave President Donald Trump rare praise on Thursday, stating he presented “good optics” to the American people to show them that he was upholding the promises he made to them on the campaign trail.
Other panelists on the broadcast agreed with her that Trump and his administration have a knack for using visuals to help reach the American public, especially when it comes to how they have handled the situation along the U.S.-Mexico border. Philip made the case that the photos of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents taking illegal migrants into custody, particularly violent criminals, send the message that “promises were made, promises were kept.”
“Here’s the thing. Whether you support Trump or you don’t, the imagery projects promises made, promises kept on immigration,” Phillip stated during the segment. “Even the liberals understand and believe that Trump is carrying out that promise, and part of it is the way he is doing it, using military airplanes, doing it on camera, taking Dr. Phil along with him.”
Phillip then told fellow panelist and former Harris campaign senior adviser Adrienne Elrod that former President Joe Biden would have reaped benefits from using similar optics during his time in the White House. Elrod agreed, making the case that Democrats should look to mimic the Jan. 6 Committee’s use of visual aides to “capture the attention” of swing voters and independents.
“I think the reason the optics are working so well for President Trump is just because of what Abby said, he made all of these promises, whether you like them or not. This is what he promised to voters on the campaign trail throughout this cycle, he’s doing exactly what he said he’d do and not only is he doing it, he’s doing it at a speed that I don’t think a lot of Republicans expected,” former Republican National Committee spokesperson Madison Gesiotto remarked during the segment.
While stumping for the White House in 2024, Trump promised the American people he would carry out the largest mass deportation operation in our nation’s history, reduce the overall size of the federal government, get rid of DEI policies, and make birthright citizenship a thing of the past, and many other things.
And since he’s been sworn in, ICE agents have been carrying out mass arrests all over the nation, even in sanctuary states, removing illegal migrants who have horrific criminal records. Agents have taken into custody 7,400 illegal migrants as of this writing, and that number is getting bigger by the moment.
On his first day as president, Trump signed a stack of executive orders, one of which declared a national emergency along the southern border. Others included the revocation of birthright citizenships for kids who are born to illegal immigrant parents, and much more.
Video and pictures have showcased ICE Agents conducting raids and arresting these dangerous criminals, sometimes hundreds in a single day, putting on display the president’s fulfillment of his promises.
