U.S. Rep. Elisa Slotkin (D-MI), who is running for U.S. Senate in Michigan, shared brutal internal polling data for the Harris-Walz Campaign with donors last week, according to a video clip obtained by Axios. Michigan is widely viewed as a must-win swing state for the Democratic Party.
“This is… I’m not feeling my best, right now, about where we are, and Kamala Harris in a place like Michigan right now,” Slotkin, who is running against U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) in a tight race, told donors. “We have her underwater in our polling.”

The Harris Campaign has long viewed Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania as must-win states, due to the fact that Trump has long held a polling advantage in North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona. While the campaign believes paths exist if they lose Pennsylvania, Michigan is viewed as particularly vital, as the state has largely voted to the left of the other two rust belt swing states in recent years.
Michigan, which boasts a sizable Muslim American population, has continuously produced troubling results for the Biden-Harris Administration since the start of the War in Gaza last year. Earlier this year, President Biden faced a significant “uncommitted” campaign through which Michigan Democrats were instructed to vote “uncommitted” in order to send a message to the Biden-Harris Administration.
In total, more than 10 percent of Michigan Democrats voted against Biden, far surpassing the target goal of 10,000 votes.
The Trump Campaign has attempted to capitalize on Democratic Party turmoil in Michigan, with Trump campaigning as a peace-maker who can end the conflict in Gaza and beyond. The message appears to be working, as the former president recently picked up an endorsement from Ameer Ghalib, the Democrat mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan.
Ghalib represents one of the biggest Muslim communities in Wayne County, Michigan. Recent census figures have pinned the Muslim population north of 60 percent.
The Hamtramck mayor played a leading role in the uncommitted campaign against Biden earlier this year. Ghalib, the son of Yemeni immigrants, explained that the movement soon evolved to “abandon Biden” and now, “Abandon Harris,” he told Breitbart News.
According to the latest New York Times/Sienna College poll, Harris is holding just a one-point advantage over her Republican rival in Michigan. Slotkin is in a much better polling position, typically out-polling the Harris-Walz Campaign by 4-5 points, though several pollsters have found the race tightening in recent weeks.
