JUST IN: Multiple Casualties Reported After Building Explodes In Youngstown, Ohio
An explosion caused extensive damage to a building in downtown Youngstown, Ohio on Tuesday afternoon. Dramatic video shows the moment an explosion rocked the Realty Building, which blew out every window and sent debris flying around the surrounding street.
The front of the Realty Building on East Federal Street is damaged and the facade was blown off, CBS affiliate WKBN reported. Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency said the incident is being treated as a potential natural gas explosion, adding that the situation is “fluid but under control.”
Firefighters could be seen pulling people out of the building, which houses a Chase Bank on the bottom floor, WKBN reported. A number of people were taken away in ambulances, with one patient in critical condition, according to a report from Cleveland News 19. A total of seven people are currently being treated for injuries at this time, the outlet reported.
“Right now, we are in close contact with local officials to check on the safety of everyone in the building and area. After that, we’ll work to determine what happened and to assess the damage,” said Angela Reighard-Rand of JPMorgan Chase.
Police and fire crews are still evacuating people from the building’s upper floors as of this report.
This is a developing story.
