WATCH: Fox News Host Trashes Charlie Kirk: ‘Not A Saint’
Just before signing off for the final episode of MediaBuzz, longtime Fox News host Howard Kurtz claimed that Charlie Kirk was “not a saint.” The comments have generated significant backlash both online and within the Fox News lineup.
During a panel discussion on Sunday, Washington Examiner editor Sarah Bedford argued that the left has a legitimate problem with violent extremism. She did concede that political violence can come from both sides of the aisle, though she stressed that, “It is not proportionate. And in order to have an honest conversation about what led to this moment, that has to focus in part on the left.”
Kurtz responded by focusing on the “both sides” portion of Bedford’s statement. “I’m glad you mentioned that it’s not unique to one side or one party. Charlie, Charlie Kirk was not a saint,” he said before taking one of Kirk’s quotes out of context.
“He said two years ago, it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so we can have the second amendment. But his murder makes us feel like a very dangerous time.”
The notion that Kirk said gun deaths are “worth it” takes his answer to a question on gun control wildly out of context. This same misrepresentation has been used by thousands of left-wing extremists to justify Kirk’s murder.
“The Second Amendment is not about hunting or even personal defense—it’s there to defend against a tyrannical government. Governments tend to become tyrannical, so citizens need the ability to protect themselves,” the prominent conservative activist said during a 2023 debate.
“We must be honest: An armed citizenry comes with a price. Driving causes 50,000 deaths yearly, but we accept it for the benefits. Similarly, you can’t eliminate all gun deaths. But it’s worth the cost of some gun deaths each year to preserve the Second Amendment and our God-given rights.”
Kirk followed up by providing his own ideas on countering gun violence and particularly mass shootings, including the presence of armed guards in schools and other soft targets.
On September 10, Fox News announced that Kurtz’s Sunday show, MediaBuzz, would be cancelled. Kurtz will remain with the network as a political analyst, though Sunday’s episode marked the official end of MedizBuzz, which will be replaced by a new program hosted by network White House correspondents Peter Doocy and Jacqui Heinrich.
Popular Fox News host Greg Gutfeld responded to Kurtz’s controversial comments on Charlie Kirk by quoting one of the numerous responses on social media. “I could not be happier this pathetic, weak little man’s show got canceled,” one account posted on X.
Gutfeld quoted that tweet with a taunt of his own. “[M]aybe we can tune in next week for a clarification….oh wait…,” he wrote on Sunday afternoon.
