WATCH: Franklin Graham Delivers Stirring Opening Prayer At Presidential Inauguration
Legendary Rev. Franklin Graham delivered a moving prayer at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, asking the jam-packed audience to pray for the 47th president to have success from his first day onward.
Graham, once among the top evangelicals most skeptical of Trump, came around to him shortly after he first took office in 2017. In July, the president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association thanked God for “sparing” Trump’s life days earlier in the first assassination attempt against him.
“It was you and you alone who saved him,” Graham told attendees at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Over the past four years, “I’m sure there were times where you thought it was pretty dark,” a stoic Rev. Graham said, addressing Trump as he looked on from behind. “But look what God has done.”
Graham asked the audience to bow their heads in prayer as the audience applauded. “Blessed be the name of God, forever and forever, for wisdom and might are his,” prayed the pastor. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris participated as well, closing their eyes in thoughtful reflection. “He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.”

“Our Father, today, as President Donald J. Trump takes the oath of office once again, we come to say thank you, oh Lord our God. Father, when Donald Trump’s enemies thought he was down and out, you and you alone saved his life and raised him up with strength and power by your mighty hand. We pray for President Trump that you’ll watch over, guide, and protect him. Give him your wisdom from your throne on high,” he continued.
“We ask that you bless him and that our nation be blessed through him. We also ask that you bless and protect Melania as first lady.”
The shift to an indoor ceremony left most would-be spectators frozen out from getting a firsthand experience. Instead, Graham led mostly lawmakers or top aides in the invocation, which ended with a call for both Republicans and Democrats to unite behind Trump for the good of the country.
“We know that America can never be great again if we turn our backs on You. We ask for Your help, and we pray for all of this in the name of the king of kings, the lord of lords, your son, my savior, and our redeemer Jesus Chris,” Graham said.
