Georgia State Representative Mesha Mainor, a Democrat who has served two terms in Georgia’s 56th district, officially announced her decision to switch her party affiliation to Republican. Mainor will be the first Black Republican woman to serve in the Georgia General Assembly. Her decision was announced via Twitter on Tuesday after reports surfaced.

Mainor’s tweet made a clear statement: “I didn’t leave the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party left ME when it embraced left-wing radicalism, lawlessness, and put the interests of illegal aliens over the interest of Americans. I have nothing to apologize for.” The tweet was accompanied by a video where she addressed her constituents directly.

Mainor acknowledged her journey so far, stating that her shift to the Republican party is the key to unlocking more potential and better serving her district. “We have been on a journey together for two terms and we’ve had some wins, but there is a better path and we can do so much more. That is why today I am announcing that I am joining the Republican party,” she explained.

This move could potentially change the landscape of Georgia politics and set the stage for other representatives to follow suit. Mainor’s move has also sparked interest on a national level. Conservative youth activist CJ Pearson announced on Twitter that Mainor will join Fox News host Sean Hannity to discuss her decision and the implications of her party switch.

“.@MeshaMainor will be joining Sean Hannity Tonight to discuss her decision to walk away from the Democrat Party, making her the first Black Republican woman to serve in the Georgia General Assembly. Tune in!” tweeted Pearson.
