WATCH: GOP Lawmaker Snatches Cringeworthy Sign From Democrat, Tosses It

A Republican lawmaker snatched a cringeworthy sign from the hands of one of his Democrat colleagues while President Trump was making his entrance at the U.S. Capitol ahead of his joint address to Congress.

As the president was making his way down the aisle, he stopped to shake hands and mingle with Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX). On the other side of the aisle, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) held up a sign reading “this is not normal” towards the direction of the cameras as Trump walked by.

A few seconds after shaking hands with the president, Rep. Gooden reached across the aisle and yanked the sign out of Rep. Stansbury’s hands before throwing it in the air.

Stansbury was not the only House Democrat who came to the address with a sign. Earlier in the day, Axios had reported that Democrats intended to bring props, including noisemakers, empty egg cartons and anti-Trump signs to the House Chamber. Reports also surfaced that Democrats intended to vocally disrupt the president’s speech, much to the dismay of Democrat Congressional leaders.

Unfortunately for them, progressive Democrats did both, as several party members belted out boos and cheers almost immediately into the president’s speech. After Trump pointed out that he won the popular vote in November, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) stood up and shouted in the direction of the president’s podium. He was then escorted out of the chamber by the House Sergeant at Arms.

Elsewhere in the speech, two Democrat lawmakers wearing black “resist” shirts walked out of the chamber after President Trump announced plans to tackle sky-high egg prices. Despite the fact that former President Biden ordered the culling of millions of chickens over bird flu concerns, Democrats have attempted to blame the Trump Administration for the egg prices he inherited.

Other House Democrats wore pink in protest of what they referred to as the president’s attempts to “roll back” women’s rights, even though the administration has adamantly worked to ban men from women’s sports. One lawmaker had the text of the 14th Amendment, which was used by Democrat Secretaries of State in unsuccessful attempts to bar Trump from the ballot, on her jacket.

Additional House Democrats held up a series of anti-Trump signs with phrases such as “false” and “Musk steals” throughout the duration of Trump’s speech. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) — who started the sign trend by referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “war criminal” during his own address to Congress last year — held a sign reading, “Start by paying your taxes.”

“I could cure disease, build the greatest economy, or end crime—and Democrats still wouldn’t clap. They refuse to stand, smile, or cheer, no matter how great the achievement,” Trump joked at one point. “Pure bitterness!”
