WATCH: GOP Senator Predicts Schumer’s Last-Minute Effort To Stop Big Beautiful Bill Will Backfire

Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) said the conference is entirely unfazed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his plan to hold a full floor reading of the Big Beautiful Bill, which advanced to the debate stage following a marathon vote in the Senate on Saturday night.

Schumer told fellow Democrats that he will be forcing an out-loud reading of the 940-page bill, according to a report from Politico. The maneuver, according to an unnamed source familiar with the plans, is designed to slow down Senate passage of the bill and give Democrats more time to rally support against it.

A full reading of the bill by clerks is provided for under Senate rules but is almost always waived by unanimous consent.

During an appearance on “Meet The Press” Sunday, Mullin predicted that the maneuver will backfire on Democrats by giving the American people a chance to hear all the highlights of the megabill, which includes a number of top Trump agenda items.

“The hardest part was getting on the bill, what we mean by getting on the bills is once we pass the House version, which is what we passed last night, then we put our amendments on it and we go into debate,” Mullin told “Meet The Press” host Kristen Welker. “Although right now there’s a stall tactic obviously by the Democrats, who are making them read by page-by-page, which I think is great. I hope the American people pay attention to it, I hope the Democrats pay attention to it, because it’s going to be very hard for them to argue about what this actually does.”

The senator went on to note that the bill will provide tens-of-billions in additional funding for border security, codify the president’s 2017 tax cuts and introduce a number of economic policies that will benefit working class Americans, such as no tax on tips and no tax on overtime.

This cuts spending, it’s the largest deficit cut by any Congress ever in history. It makes tax cuts permanent, which instead of taxes going up January 1st by $4 trillion, it actually restores the tax cuts. And it’s gonna, the average household of four is gonna bring home pay over $10,000 more a year this year than they did last year,” Mullin said of the bill.

So that is great. I hope, really, I hope the Democrats pay attention and realize we’re delivering for the American people. But once that happens, we go into a 20-hour debate, then we’re going to do the Votorama, and we’re going to pass this bill. And we’re very confident we have the votes to do that.”
