WATCH: Greta Thunberg Arrested For Supporting ‘Terror Group’

Prominent left-wing activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in London during a pro-Palestine protest on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

The incident occurred outside the offices of an insurance company linked to the Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems, located in the city’s financial district. Thunberg, aged 22, was among a group of protesters demonstrating in support of individuals associated with Palestine Action, who were on hunger strike while imprisoned.

According to reports, Thunberg was holding a placard that read, “I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.”

Palestine Action, a direct-action group that has targeted companies involved in Israel’s defense industry, was designated as a terrorist organization by the British government earlier in 2025. The group has been accused of causing significant damage to such firms, amounting to millions of dollars.

City of London Police arrested Thunberg under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which prohibits the display of support for proscribed organizations. A police spokesperson confirmed that the arrest was based on the content of her sign, which expressed support for prisoners linked to the banned group.

Thunberg was taken into custody but released on bail later that day, with conditions requiring her to appear in court in March 2026. Two other individuals were detained at the same protest for throwing red paint at the building.

Tuesday’s incident adds to Thunberg’s history of arrests related to activism for far-left causes, primarily for climate and Palestine-related demonstrations.

In April 2024, Thunberg was arrested in The Hague, Netherlands, while participating in a demonstration by Extinction Rebellion to block a major highway in protest against fossil fuel subsidies. Police removed her and around 400 others from the site after they refused to disperse.

Earlier incidents include a July 2023 conviction in Sweden, where a Malmö district court found her guilty of disobeying police orders during an anti-oil protest at the city’s harbor. She was ultimately fined approximately $240 for blocking tanker trucks during the disturbance.

In October of that year, she was again arrested for public order offenses in London while participating in another climate change protest.

Thunberg has also faced accusations of supporting extremist groups, particularly in relation to her pro-Palestinian advocacy. The 2025 arrest directly stems from claims of endorsing Palestine Action, which the UK proscribed as a terrorist entity under laws targeting groups that glorify or encourage terrorism.

These claims primarily stem from her participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla (also known as Freedom Flotilla initiatives) aimed at breaching Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza during its conflict with Hamas.

Israeli authorities have repeatedly alleged that flotilla networks, including those Thunberg joined in 2025, have ties to Hamas. For instance, Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Anti-Semitism released reports claiming that flotilla leaders and spokespersons maintain connections with Hamas, including meetings with officials.

One report highlighted individuals like Zahir Birawi, described as having links to Hamas, as a founding member of related coalitions. Thunberg has not publicly endorsed Hamas, however, and has condemned civilian killings.
