WATCH: Jake Tapper ‘Visibly Stunned’ By Independents’ Massive Swing Toward Trump

Election Day is here, and with early exit polls rolling in, there’s already a surprising shake-up in the 2024 race. Independent voters — those pivotal, hard-to-pin-down Americans who don’t declare loyalty to either party — are swinging decisively in favor of former President Donald Trump, especially in critical battleground states like Georgia.

CNN’s Jake Tapper, covering the unfolding results, appeared genuinely taken aback when early data revealed Trump leading among independents by an astonishing 11-point margin. Just four years ago, this group went for Joe Biden by 9 points in Georgia, playing a major role in his narrow win there. The new figures show a stunning 20-point swing toward Trump, highlighting an intense shift that could prove consequential for Biden’s campaign.

“Wow, they’re giant,” Tapper remarked after examining the numbers. “That independent swing is wild,” he added, turning to Dana Bash, who agreed on the significance of these results. While incremental changes in groups like young voters and non-college white voters show each candidate with slight boosts, the independent vote is where the true shift lies.

For the Harris team, this swing is a challenge with the very group they successfully courted in 2020 but appear to be losing now. Since the 2020 Presidential election, where Georgia flipped blue for the first time since 1992, it has garnered national attention as a swing state with a highly competitive political landscape.

If the swing holds, Georgia may just be the tip of the iceberg for independents breaking for Trump across the map.
