WATCH: James Comey Melts Down Over His Daughter’s Firing From DOJ After Failed Cases
In a new video statement, former FBI Director James Comey railed against the Trump Administration for firing his daughter, Maurene, who had been working as a prosecutor at the prestigious U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York.
Comey was fired last week after the conclusion of the racketeering and sex-trafficking case against rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, which she was across. The government failed to secure convictions on the most serious charges, though Combs was convicted of lesser crimes and is currently awaiting sentencing.
She also oversaw the case against notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which barely got going before Epstein killed himself in his Manhattan jail cell in 2019. Comey has received criticism for arguing in court against unsealing some court documents in the Epstein case.
In a recent video statement, the elder Comey lashed out at the Trump Administration as investigations into his own questionable conduct are underway. Comey — who is currently the subject of a sprawling conspiracy investigation relating to his role in the bogus Russian collusion hoax — claimed that he and his employees have always attempted to uphold a “reservoir of trust and credibility” at the Justice Department.
He went on to read a letter from his daughter that was written after she was let go from the department.
“Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the office. I was summarily fired via memo from Maine Justice that did not give a reason for my termination,” Maurene Comey wrote. She went on to claim. like her father, that she did not let politics influence her job performance.
“But we have entered a new phase where without fear may be the challenge. If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain. Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought,” Maurene Comey ranted. “Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power, of commitment to seek justice for victims, of dedication to truth above all else. It has been an honor to fight for those principles by your side.”
The elder Comey — who was recently the subject of a separate investigation after making an alleged threat to President Trump — praised the letter before once again claiming that he and his daughter are nonpartisan.
“ I don’t have much to add to that except to say the reservoir is in grave danger right now. Trump and the hacks who lead the Department of Justice are hammering at the dam day after day trying to turn it into just another gold-leaf covered Trump subsidiary,” he said.
“Our best hope is that good people will stay and do what Maurene asked, have the courage to do the right thing always. You may get fired for acting that way, but there’s honor in that and nothing but disgrace for those who don’t stand up. There are gonna be hard weeks in the Trump era and this was one for my family, but there are plenty of good people still in the department committed to doing things the right way, committed to the rule of law. For them, because of them. Keep the faith.”
Recently declassified documents relating to the bogus Russian collusion investigation have confirmed that senior intelligence officials knew Russia did not have any material effect on the election when they signed off on the bogus investigation, which was used to hamstring President Trump’s first term. Both Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan said the opposite when testifying before Congress.
