WATCH: Jessica Tarlov Torched On ‘The Five’ For Stunning Statement On Tim Walz
Jessica Tarlov found herself in the hot seat on The Five after making a surprising defense of former vice presidential candidate Tim Walz (D-MN), who has been attempting to pick up the pieces after the Democrats’ disastrous election loss.
During a segment on The Five about the Democratic Party’s messaging failures, the co-hosts discussed how party leaders are struggling to connect with voters. Jesse Watters took aim at their desperation, mocking their reliance on social media influencers to appear more ‘authentic’ while ignoring the concerns of everyday Americans. Since the election, many have chimed in, urging Democrats to drop the theatrics and ‘just be a real person.’
Comedian Andrew Schulz recently blasted the party’s elite, saying they are “super rich nepo babies telling poor people how they should think and who they should vote for.” But Tarlov took an unexpected approach, praising Walz for stepping up where Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have been absent.
“I think it’s good that Tim Walz is out there,” she said before defending the Democrats’ messaging efforts. Watters and Gutfeld weren’t having it.
“Really?” Watters shot back, visibly skeptical of Tarlov’s take. Gutfeld piled on: “He’s really out there,” dripping with sarcasm.
“It’s better than not confronting it. And he’s taking responsibility, which people were asking for. They wanted Biden to take responsibility,” Tarlov said.

Tarlov continued, arguing that the Democratic Party’s economic messaging is working, citing a Quinnipiac poll showing disapproval ratings for President Donald Trump. She claimed Democrats are effectively communicating with voters through town halls and grassroots outreach, while Republicans, in her view, are avoiding tough questions.
Walz himself made headlines Wednesday with a social media post announcing his latest strategy to push the Democratic agenda in red states. “I’m hitting the road, traveling to red states across the country to lend a megaphone to the people. Your congressman may not want to listen, but they’re going to hear from us anyway,” he wrote.
“There was just a primal scream of folks recognizing what’s going on with the Trump administration, their authoritarian tendencies, and what they viewed was a lack of a proper response from their representatives,” Walz said to CNN earlier this week. “It was about these Republican representatives recognizing this stuff’s really unpopular, so they’re going to quit the town halls.”
“These folks need to be heard. They need to be heard, and to be candid with you, Democratic leadership needs to hear them.”

“I’m a catalyst to provide them a megaphone to lift up their voice. And I think that’s what people are looking for,” Walz said, announcing his tour of town halls. “I understand now my responsibility. I have a little more of a national voice, so I should bring it to them, and I’m going to basically be handing the megaphone to them.”
