WATCH: Joe Manchin Refuses To Call Himself A Democrat When Pressed By Maria Bartiromo
During an interview over the weekend with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) stirred controversy by refusing to identify himself as a Democrat when asked about his political affiliation.
Machin tried to get away from the oncoming obvious question, saying, “My main concern is how do we bring this country together? How do we make it work?” Manchin said when asked about potentially running for president. “How do we make Democrats, Republicans become Americans again, and not just party affiliates?”
Bartiromo asked Manchin twice: “Do you still identify as a Democrat?”
Manchin caved and finally said, “I identify as an American. I’m an American through and through.”
Joe Manchin is a United States Senator from West Virginia. He has been in office since 2010 and is a member of the Democratic Party.
