WATCH: John Kennedy Torches AOC With Hilarious One-Liner: ‘Let Her Speak’
On a night filled with foreign policy talk and budget negotiations, it was Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) who stole the show with a classic zinger aimed at progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
During a live Fox News town hall hosted by Sean Hannity in Washington, D.C., Kennedy and fellow Republican senators discussed pressing issues like reconciliation efforts, tax policy, and the looming threat of Iran’s nuclear program. But when Hannity teed him up for a quick take on Democratic leadership—specifically “Jasmine, AOC, and Bernie”—Kennedy delivered a one-liner that left the room in stitches.
“I consider Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to be the leader of the Democratic Party,” Kennedy began with a smirk. “She’s entitled to her opinion. I’m entitled to mine. As I’ve said about her before: I think she’s the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle.”
Even Hannity couldn’t help but chuckle, with Kennedy adding, “Our plan for dealing with her is called Operation Let Her Speak.”

The town hall was also an opportunity for Republican senators to stress the importance of passing a budget resolution to move forward with reconciliation, the only way, they say, to deliver on Trump’s promises of cutting spending and making tax relief permanent. But amid all the policy talk, it was Kennedy’s humor that dominated headlines.
This isn’t the first time the Louisiana senator has taken aim at AOC with southern wit. He’s made similar remarks in the past, often painting her as emblematic of the activist left’s obsession with style over substance.
In 2019, Senator Kennedy criticized AOC for her remarks comparing U.S. border detention facilities to “concentration camps.” He labeled her comments as “breathtaking” hypocrisy, pointing out her opposition to funding aimed at improving these facilities.
In 2020, he commented on then-Senator Kamala Harris, stating, “I think of Kamala I would describe her as Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez but smarter and without the bartending experience. She’ll be a very formidable candidate.”
