WATCH: Lara Trump Performs Live At Mar-A-Lago During NYE Celebration
New Year’s Eve crowds at Mar-a-Lago were treated to a special performance on Tuesday night by Lara Trump, who briefly became the event’s frontman for a pitch-perfect concert performance of one of the president’s favorite songs.
Lara, the daughter-in-law to President-elect Donald Trump and powerful former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, rocked the house as she led the hall in a singalong of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” Dan Scavino was present for the impromptu performance and captured an enthusiastic crowd clapping to the rhythm, cheering her on, and singing along. A brief shot of Trump showed the incoming president looking on approvingly from the head table.

Scenes from the night also included “First Buddy” Elon Musk and Trump repeating their dance to the Village People’s “YMCA.” Trump continued to dance as the crowd waiting until midnight to kick off the celebration in earnest. In a heartwarming moment, Musk’s youngest son X sat atop his dad’s shoulders and clapped as Trump came up to ask how he was enjoying the evening.

Before he entered the event, the Republican leader stopped by a scrum of reporters where he confirmed he would be attending the funeral of the late President Jimmy Carter. One journalist asked Trump if he has any New Year’s resolutions he plans to commit to, but he used the moment to send his best wishes to the American people. “I just want everybody to be happy, healthy, and well,” Trump replied.

Lara Trump is at the forefront of the family dynasty and is believed to carry political aspirations of her own. Earlier this month the wife of Eric Trump shot down rumors that she would ask Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to appoint her to the U.S. Senate, filling a vacancy left by secretary of state nominee Marco Rubio. She spent most of 2024 co-chairing the RNC alongside Michael Whatley where she flexed her fundraising prowess on the way to a landslide victory by her father-in-law and Republican majorities in the House and Senate.
Trump family observers believe Lara is just one of several members who could succeed President-elect Trump, who will take office this month for his second and final four-year term. Both Eric and Donald Trump, Jr. have taken active roles in the family’s political businesses, and the president-elect’s youngest son Barron, a telegenic, 6’9″ college freshman, has been credited with encouraging his father to embrace podcasting over the mainstream media during his campaign. For one night, at least, the entire clan was gathered under a single roof, celebrating a surreal and satisfying repeat of their 2016 fortunes.
