A large object was heaved out of the top floor of the White House recently, perplexing observers until contractors working on the property were able to provide an explanation.

Social media users suggested First Lady Melania Trump was having a bad day when the object was hurled out of an upper-level side window and fell to the ground below. Footage shows an individual launching the cumbersome item into the air, but from a distance, it’s unclear who it was.

A video zipping across X does not include a timestamp indicating when the incident took place, but it still prompted an official response by a spokesperson for the White House, who blamed “a contractor who was doing regular maintenance while the president was gone.”

President Donald Trump was out of the residence for most of the Labor Day weekend. On Monday, he was seen golfing at his club in Sterling, Virginia, accompanied by his granddaughter, Kai, and her brother, Spencer.

Intermingled with concern about the footage were rumors about Trump’s health, which have percolated since his last public appearance a week ago. The president, ever eager to show that he remains fit for office, promised a “major” announcement at the White House later on Tuesday.

An account with the name Washingtonian Problems first flagged the video of the airborne object, according to the Daily Mail, which claimed that an anonymous insider submitted the footage to the account.

Almost immediately, viewers began to joke that Trump and his wife were having a row.

“Given that women usually throw things out of windows, would safe to say that this is a very mad female,” a user wrote on X, continuing, “and females do this when they really want answers.”

“Was Melania in Washington DC today?”

Another darkly joked that “maybe Melania is mad that he’s not dead too.”

The first lady is known to reside mainly in New York with her son Baron, who is a student at New York University’s Stern School of Business. She rarely spends her nights at the White House.

Critics have also lambasted the White House for what they claim is a lack of transparency around marks on Trump’s hands. He has been seen in recent weeks with makeup covering bruising on the top of his hands. White House officials blamed the cause on excessive handshaking, as well as chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that causes swelling in the legs and can lead to difficulty in sending blood back to the heart.
