One of rock ‘n’ roll’s most beloved stars suffered a medical injury on stage last week while performing with his backup band. The sensational moment quickly went viral after a video rocketed around social media.

Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder was midway through his set on a Miami cruise ship Thursday night as part of The Rock Legend Cruise, a floating rock festival that raises money for Native American causes, when he began to stumble during a performance of the Eagles’ classic hit “Tequila Sunrise.” Shortly after the tune began, Felder dropped his hands away from his six-string and nearly lost his balance before grabbing the microphone. Aides rushed in to keep him upright.

He was quickly shuttled behind the scenes, leaving fans shouting in concern. Felder had just finished making a joke about “staying up all night with my friend Jose,” who he joked has the last name “Cuervo.”

A video clip of the scary scene finished with audience members applauding for Felder’s recovery as he looks on from backstage, disoriented.

“We appreciate everyone’s concern regarding Don Felder’s abrupt stop to his show last night on the Rock Legends Cruise,” they wrote on social media, according to the Daily Caller. “After receiving medical attention he was deemed to be suffering from dehydration. He was given fluids, and is feeling much better,” they said.

The statement continued, “To ensure he has ample time to rehydrate and recover fully, we are working on rescheduling today’s shows and adjusting the remainder of the cruise schedule accordingly. Thank you for your understanding, and remember – drink your water!”

Felder is still believed to be on the cruise ship, which continued toward the Bahamas. The Rock Legend Cruise has teased Felder for several more performances on its duration, according to the organization’s website. Other big name artists expected to perform include Styx, John Waite, Foghat, Robin Tower, and Alice Cooper.

Felder, 77, is one of the band’s oldest former members, though thankfully, most have still survived the passage of time. Original members Don Henley, 77, and Bernie Leadon, 77, continue to perform, as does guitarist Joe Walsh, who joined the band in 1975.

Following the Eagles’ 1980 disbandment, Felder embarked on his own career as a solo artist, film composer, and contributor for other up-and-coming artists. He reunited with the original band members in 1994 for a one-time performance on MTV that served as the catalyst to their album “Hell Freezes Over.”

In 2001, Felder was fired by his bandmates, and he went on to level a $50 million lawsuit alleging wrongful termination. The suit was later settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Despite the turmoil, Felder said in 2016 he regretted never making up with bandmate Glenn Frey before his death. “I had always hoped somewhere along the line, he and I would have dinner together, talking about old times and letting it go with a handshake and a hug,” he told the AP in a previous interview.
