WATCH: Letitia James Loses It In Screaming Rant About Trump: ‘I’m Covered By The Blood!’

New York Attorney General Letitia James delivered an impassioned speech criticizing President Donald Trump during a civil rights event hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton, invoking religious themes as she accused him of sowing division and undermining democratic institutions.

“It’s that stone of hope that gives me a fire in my belly each and every morning,” James began Friday, invoking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. before taking direct aim at Trump. “It’s that stone of hope that allows me to wake up and to stand to Donald Trump and to say, Donald Trump, I’m not afraid of you.”

“I am not going to disgrace [my ancestors] and disappoint them,” she said. “I am going to use the law both as a sword and as a shield and challenge Donald Trump… because he represents to me sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

James, who is currently entangled in multiple legal battles with the president, took the moment to defend diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives (DEI), painting them as catch-all policies. “DEI is about paid parental leave. DEI is about disabled children,” she yelled. “Let them know that they’re not only coming after us, but they’re coming after all of us.”

“Faith and fear can never share the same space,” she shouted. “I’m covered by the blood and I’m not afraid of Donald Trump! You can come after me, but no enemy, nothing formed against me will perish!”

James’s confrontational stance toward Trump isn’t new. From lawsuits over his executive orders to challenging cuts in Title X funding and NIH research grants, the New York AG has made Trump a near-constant target.

This includes recent litigation against the administration’s decision to suspend federal family planning funds—moves James called “cruel and shameful.” James also joined coalitions of Democratic attorneys general in suing to block Trump’s attempts to roll back DEI-focused medical research and restructure election administration via executive order—moves she slammed as “unconstitutional” and “dangerous.”

Despite her legal activism, critics have accused James of using her position for political theater rather than equal application of the law.

Last year, James ordered then-former President Trump to pay more than $450 million in a civil fraud judgment. In April, Trump acted swiftly to prevent the state from seizing his assets, posting a $175 million bond through Knight Specialty Insurance Company while he appealed the ruling.

But the bond didn’t go unchallenged. Fast forward to February 2025—now-President Trump made headlines again when he revoked the security clearances of several individuals, including AG Letitia James.

That same month, Trump’s newly appointed U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi launched a civil lawsuit targeting top New York Democrats—including James and Governor Kathy Hochul—over the state’s immigration policies. The lawsuit zeroed in on New York’s Green Light Law, which allows undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

Bondi’s office argued the law directly clashes with federal immigration statutes. James and Hochul defended the measure, insisting it enhances public safety.
