WATCH: Letitia James Loses It Over Trump’s Latest Move During Unhinged Press Conference
New York Attorney General Letitia James is not taking President Donald Trump’s latest counterattack well. After spending years waging legal war against the former president, she’s now on the receiving end of a devastating blow—one that’s left her fuming in front of the cameras.
During an impassioned press conference, James erupted over the Trump administration’s decision to halt payments to the state of New York, calling it “unacceptable, unconstitutional, ultra-bias. They have exceeded their authority.”
“It is important that Attorneys General representing our respective states stand up and enforce the rule of law. The Treasury and the President of these United States are not above the law,” James said.
For someone who once believed she would be the one to bring Trump down, it’s a brutal reality check. Not only has she failed to sideline him politically, but she now finds herself entangled in legal trouble of her own.

Just two days ago, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Department of Justice is filing charges against the state of New York, Governor Kathy Hochul, James, and DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder for failing to enforce immigration law. The lawsuit targets New York’s controversial sanctuary policies.
Bondi made it clear that the DOJ is prioritizing the safety of American citizens and holding state officials accountable for defying federal law.
James’ meltdown comes ahead of a crucial court hearing on Friday, where state attorneys general will attempt to block Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from accessing Treasury Department records. With pressure mounting from all sides, James appears to be grasping at straws, desperately trying to keep her legal battles from spiraling out of control.
Attorneys general from 18 states have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, targeting Musk and DOGE for access to personal data. The lawsuit, initiated by James and Connecticut Attorney General William Tong, was filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., on February 7.
It alleges that DOGE, under Musk’s direction, illegally accessed the Treasury Department’s central payment system, exposing Americans’ private information. The attorneys general argue that such actions should only be executed by a government official who has been nominated and confirmed by the Senate, citing constitutional safeguards that limit the powers of Congress and the president.
During their press conference on Friday, James vehemently criticized Musk’s actions.
“Elon was not voted in by the people,” James said according to AMNY. “The American people deserve better. We will be in the courthouse time and time again. The American people will not back down.”
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas in Manhattan decided to maintain a temporary restraining order on Musk’s government cost-cutting initiative according to Reuters, preventing it from accessing critical Treasury Department systems that handle trillions of dollars in payments.
During the hearing, Judge Vargas did not make a final decision on a request from 19 Democratic state attorneys general who are seeking a more extended preliminary injunction to block DOGE’s access. The temporary order, initially put in place last Saturday, remains effective.
