WATCH: Liz Warren Loses It During RFK’s Confirmation Hearing, Screams Into The Mic
In a moment of pure political theater on Capitol Hill, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), known for her grandstanding and self-righteous tirades, took her theatrics to a new level during Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation hearing on Wednesday.
As President Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Kennedy faced a predictable grilling from Senate Democrats, but Warren’s unhinged performance stole the show. The hearing, which was meant to evaluate Kennedy’s qualifications, quickly devolved into Warren shouting over him, refusing to let him finish a sentence.
Things reached a fever pitch when she aggressively demanded that Kennedy pledge not to sue pharmaceutical companies, a demand he refused to entertain. “I’ll comply with all the ethical guidelines,” Kennedy told Warren.
“That’s not the question!” Warren replied.
“Senator, you’re asking me not to sue vaccine companies,” Kennedy stated plainly.
Warren, clearly not used to being challenged, lost her composure. “No, I am not!” she shrieked, her voice cracking as she leaned into the microphone.
Then came her most absurd claim yet: According to Warren, Kennedy is plotting to destroy vaccines entirely and profit from it.
“Look, no one should be fooled here,” Warren ranted. “As Secretary of HHS, Robert Kennedy will have the power to undercut vaccines and vaccine manufacturing across our country. Kennedy can kill off access to vaccines and make millions of dollars while he does it. Kids might die, but Robert Kennedy can keep cashing in.”
WATCH:
In 2024, Kennedy launched an independent presidential campaign but later suspended it to endorse former President Trump. Following Trump’s re-election, Kennedy was nominated for the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services. So far, his confirmation hearings have been contentious, with a significant focus on his vaccine skepticism.
“I want to make sure the Committee is clear about a few things. News reports have claimed that I am anti-vaccine or anti-industry. Well, I am neither; I am pro-safety,” Kennedy said Wednesday.
Indeed, Democratic senators came prepared with a laundry list of questions for RFK, including about his past vaccine comments and the allegation that he once left a dead bear cub in New York’s Central Park.
Kennedy still must endure a courtesy hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Thursday, but Trump administration officials are already plotting to force Kennedy’s confirmation even if the committee vote does not go his way. He can only afford to lose one Republican vote there, and most observers believe Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a physician by trade, to be among the shakiest.
On Wednesday, Kennedy sought to quell fears that he would dismantle years of research and distribution of vaccines, saying he would not “take away anybody’s vaccines” if confirmed to head up HHS. “In my advocacy, I have disturbed the status quo by asking uncomfortable questions. Well, I won’t apologize for that. We have massive health problems in this country that we must face honestly,” he added.
“All of my kids are vaccinated, and I believe vaccines have a critical role in healthcare.”
