WATCH: Megyn Kelly SCHOOLS Bill Maher On J6, Democrat Election Denial In Fiery Interview
Bill Maher may have taken some more conservative (read: non-insane) positions lately, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t stopped occasionally putting his foot in his mouth when it comes to criticizing former President Donald Trump and his supporters.
The HBO host got brutally fact-checked by Megyn Kelly while appearing on her show, whiffing on claims that Hilly Clinton never called Trump an “illegitimate president” and stating the J6 rioters killed police officers. Kelly shut down Maher’s alternative truths quickly and produced tapes contradicting him in real-time.

Clinton “spent the next four years saying [Trump] was an illegitimate president,” Kelly starts as Maher blusters a tepid retort, “Okay, well first she didn’t say – you tell me exactly what she said.”
“She said those exact words,” Kelly continued before playing a clip of Hillary stating about Trump, “I believe he knows he’s an illegitimate president.” The former Fox News host has refused to let liberals off the hook by denying that Clinton was guilty of election denial, a position they have wielded against Trump-supporting candidates with litmus test questions about whether they will refuse to accept the results of their elections.
That apparently wasn’t enough to make Maher issue an apology; he just moved the goalposts. “I mean, she conceded the election. Whether you’re interpreting her disappointment at losing it as the same thing as Trump not conceding it… again, it’s a tremendous false equivalency.”

Later on in their discussion, Kelly and Maher tangled over the facts around the deaths of several Capitol police officers who were present during the January 6th, 2021 riots. Opponents of Trump and his supporters have held up as an example the death of Brian Sicknick, a former officer who died one day later after suffering two strokes. Maher claimed the J6 riots were there to “break windows and knock down doors and kill cops.”
“They didn’t kill cops,” Kelly shot back. “Of course they did!” he shot back. “Who did? They died of natural causes then?”
Going back to the tape, Kelly played a clip from CBS reporting on a medical examiner’s conclusion that Sicknick indeed died of natural causes. Again, more stuttering and “I don’t remember the names” answers from Maher.

Kelly is not the biggest fan of Trump, having feuded with him for years and was infamously on the receiving end of some extremely personal attacks by the former president after moderating a debate against then-candidate Joe Biden in 2020. Criticizing her pushback on his claims and frequent interruptions of his statements, Trump later told CNN “you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”
However, that hasn’t stopped Kelly from patching things up with the Republican leader, telling viewers in July 2023 that the two were on “great terms” according to Newsweek.
