WATCH: MS NOW Pumps Breaks On Anti-ICE Narrative, Smacks Down Officials’ Riotous Rhetoric

An MS NOW legal analyst condemned inflammatory comments made by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey in the immediate aftermath of an ICE-involved shooting in the city that left a 37-year-old woman dead.

Shortly after the incident occurred, Mayor Frey jumped out ahead of any investigation and claimed the agent had no reasonable claim of self-defense in a foul-mouthed press conference. “They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly—that is bullshit. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed,” Frey declared.

“There’s little I can say that’ll make this situation better, but I do have a message for our community, for our city, and I do have a message for ICE. To ICE: Get the f**k out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite,” he continued.

Thomas Manger, an MS NOW legal analyst who served as chief of the U.S. Capitol Police before his retirement in 2025, described Frey’s comments as irresponsible while reacting to the incident on the network.

“When elected officials get out in front of an investigation and give you their conclusions, I don’t know how helpful that is. I hear what the mayor is saying, he’s certainly speaking from the heart. But for him to say, for ICE to get the F out of Minneapolis, that’s not helpful,” he said.

“It’s not going to happen. That could escalate things,” the former Capitol Police chief added.

Manger further noted that tensions remain high, and that definitive statements should not be made before an investigation has unfolded.

Multiple videos of the shooting, which left a 37-year-old woman dead, have been released.

One angle filmed by bystanders on the side of the street show a group of agents approaching a dark SUV while one of them tells the driver to step out of the vehicle. The driver then attempted to turn around before accelerating forward, in the direction of an agent standing directly in front of the vehicle.

The agent in front of the vehicle then fired multiple shots, at least one of which penetrated through the driver’s side windshield, according to photos from the scene. The vehicle then accelerated forward a few feet before crashing into a parked car.

A wider angle of the shooting filmed from a few houses down the street clearly shows the officer standing directly in front of the vehicle. The officer appears to have been definitively struck by the vehicle prior to opening fire.

In the seconds following the shooting, the agent could be seen clearly limping as he moved towards the vehicle.

DHS has reported a 1,300% increase in attacks targeting federal immigration agents between January and November of last year.

Vehicle-ramming attacks have become increasingly common, as local activist groups across the country frequently organize in Facebook groups to oppose ICE operations. In one incident recorded this past summer, agents were forced to open fire when they were “boxed in” by anti-ICE groups while conducting operations in Chicago.

Since President Donald Trump was sworn in on January 20 of last year, there have been 28 vehicular attacks recorded against ICE agents alone, per DHS figures. This is up from just two incidents in the previous year.
