WATCH: MSNBC Legal Expert Strikes Down Democrats’ Hysterical ‘Constitutional Crisis’ Rhetoric

Democrats and left-leaning media outlets are once again sounding the alarm over President Donald Trump’s latest executive actions, branding them a “constitutional crisis.” However, MSNBC’s own legal expert, Danny Cevallos, pushed back on the dramatic rhetoric, arguing that the situation is far from an actual crisis.

During a segment on Morning Joe, co-host Mika Brzezinski referred to the front page of The New York Times, which claimed the country is in a constitutional crisis. The article cited law school deans and legal experts who pointed to Trump’s executive orders—ranging from birthright citizenship policies to agency shakeups—as evidence of his so-called systematic disregard for the law.

“The distinctive feature of the current situation, several legal scholars said, is its chaotic flood of activity and collectively amounts to a radically new conception of presidential power,” Brzezinski stated. “It is a constitutional crisis when the President of the United States doesn’t care what the Constitution says, regardless of whether Congress or the courts resist.”

Brzezinski then pressed Cevallos for his take on whether Trump’s actions truly amounted to a constitutional crisis.

“I think we need to be careful with the term ‘constitutional crisis,’ because as I define it, that would be a situation where the Constitution doesn’t have an answer and there is a pressing conflict,” Cevallos responded. “The flurry of executive orders, the chaos, that I think doesn’t get us to crisis yet.”

“The crisis occurs… at the moment when there is a court order and the president or the administration refuses to follow it,” Cevallos explained. “Because historically, we don’t really have a clear answer for what to do in that situation.”

Brzezinski interjected, claiming that Trump’s flurry of executive actions was overwhelming the courts. “The bottom line is, the flurry and the chaos of it may make it so that the courts won’t even have the time to react,” she argued.

Cevallos, however, countered that courts are equipped to handle such challenges and have done so before. “Issuing a bunch of executive orders… not only do we know that the courts can handle it, they already did this back in 2017,” he noted. “This is the same MO. The Trump administration then would just fire out executive orders, it felt like they weren’t even spell-checking them, and then they would let the courts prune them like the proverbial bonsai tree.”

The MSNBC legal analyst’s comments directly undercut the left’s hysteria over Trump’s return to the political stage. While the media has eagerly parroted Democratic claims that his policies represent an existential threat to democracy, Cevallos provided a measured take, reminding viewers that the judicial system exists precisely to address such disputes.

Meanwhile, Brzezinski and her panel continued to list court rulings against Trump’s recent actions, including the blocking of federal funding freezes and challenges to birthright citizenship changes. Co-host Willie Geist acknowledged that the courts are already stepping in, suggesting that the system remains intact and functioning as intended.

Yet, Democrats and their media allies continue to push the crisis narrative. As The New York Times framed it, “Systematic unconstitutional and illegal acts create a constitutional crisis.”

But Cevallos’s remarks serve as a reminder that constitutional crises are rare and typically arise only when a president openly defies judicial authority. So far, despite their breathless rhetoric, Democrats have yet to present evidence that such a crisis is actually taking place.

Instead, the current landscape mirrors past legal showdowns between Trump and the courts. As Cevallos pointed out, the judiciary has already proven it can handle the chaos, making the left’s “constitutional crisis” alarmism little more than political theater.
