WATCH: Philadelphia’s Democrat Mayor Channels Kamala Harris, Gets Booed For ‘Word Salad’ Speech
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker was loudly booed during the Eagles’ Super Bowl championship parade on Friday as the crowd got fed up with her long-winded, “word salad” speech.
Tens of thousands of Philadelphia eagles flocked to Broad Street for the second Eagles Super Bowl parade in a decade after the hometown team blew out the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Eagles fans — who have garnered a reputation for being some of the most passionate sports fans in the United States — were undeterred by frigid temperatures as spectators began to line up outside the Art Museum a full 24 hours before the victory parade kicked off.
While the fans were eager to support their team, Mayor Parker received an icy reception after delivering a long-winded speech that had little to do with football. The speech was heavy on platitudes, leading to comparisons to former Vice President Kamala Harris. At one point in the five-minute address, Parker declared that “nothing is possible” when people work together.
As the mayor droned on, impatient Eagles fans began to boo and chant “wrap it up!”
The gaffe came just a few weeks after the mayor went viral for another slip-up, when she spelled the team’s name incorrectly while leading fans in an “E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles” chant. “E-L-G-S-E-S” the mayor declared in a clip that later went viral nationwide.
Parker did acknowledge the gaffe and made fun of herself during the Super Bowl parade speech, however. “We don’t promise perfection, I’m so happy I never have,” she told the gathering. “Especially after I couldn’t spell ‘Eagles’ right.”
Parker is in the midst of her first term as mayor after upending candidates from both the progressive and establishment wing of the Democratic Party in a shocking primary race in 2023. She went on to defeat Republican David Oh in the November election, making her the first woman to serve as Mayor of Philadelphia.
