WATCH: Pro-Amnesty Democrat Questions Elon Musk’s Loyalty To The U.S.
U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) — who has supported pathways to citizenship for illegal aliens and condemned President Trump’s immigration enforcement strategies — questioned Elon Musk’s loyalty to the United States during a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday.
Kaptur and a handful of her Democrat colleagues held a brief press conference in which they condemned the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, which has already recommended tens-of-billions of dollars in cuts to federal spending. DOGE has methodically audited a number of federal agencies and departments, including the Department of Defense, which was the focus of Wednesday’s press conferences.
While speaking in front of a podium with a “PROTECT VETERAN JOBS,” sign, Kaptur questioned whether Musk can be trusted due to the fact that he was born in South Africa. “Mr. Musk has just been here 22 years and he’s a citizen of three countries. I always ask myself the question, with the damage he’s doing here, when push comes to shove, which country is he loyal to?” the Democrat lawmaker asked.
“South Africa? Canada? Or the United States? And he’s only been a citizen, I’ll say again, 22 years.”
Kaptur has long supported the flood of “asylum seekers” and foreign workers into the United States, though she has never questioned the loyalty of anyone until now. In 2019, The Democrat lawmaker enthusiastically supported the “American Promise and Dream Act,” which would have provided citizenship for thousands of illegal aliens. The legislation built off former President Obama’s “dreamers” executive order, through which he sidestepped Congress and altered U.S. immigration authority without a vote from lawmakers.
The law stayed in place despite the fact that it was found to be unconstitutional by multiple federal appeals courts, while Democrats have unsuccessfully lobbied to codify the executive order into law for the better part of the last decade.
Kaptur has also stated that Trump’s immigration policies and statements on crimes committed by illegal aliens are “un-American, racist and cruel.”
When President Trump moved to take away Temporary Protected Status protections for tens-of-thousands of foreign nationals in 2018 — a policy the administration has rapidly in Trump’s second term — Kaptur made similar claims. “Taking away the protected status of immigrants with random actions will break up families and will hurt our economy. We need comprehensive reform and this is not it,” she said at the time.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) pointed to the absurdity of Rep. Kaptur’s comments given her past support for the Biden Administration’s open borders policies. “Says the Democrats who rolled out the red carpet for illegal aliens, gave them taxpayer benefits, and shielded violent criminal aliens from law enforcement,” Johnson wrote in a quote tweet linking to Kaptur’s statements.
“So much for ‘loyalty’ to country.”
