Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan’s far-left governor, was confronted by a group of pro-Palestine protesters while attending her daughter’s graduation dinner.
Footage shows a group of protesters yelling at the governor inside a restaurant. “How do you justify genocide? How do you sleep at night?” one of the protesters yelled. “What are you doing about Palestinian children?”
Whitmer then attempted to talk with them, saying “I appreciate you raising your voices here” before informing them that she was celebrating her daughter’s graduation. “What about all of the children that are in mass graves?” one of the protesters shouted back. “What about them? Are you doing anything about it?” she continued before once again accusing Whitmer of supporting “genocide.”
Democrats are increasingly concerned about Michigan as the state’s large Muslim population has consistently expressed dissatisfaction with Biden’s handling of the conflict in Gaza. In the state’s recent Democratic primary, nearly 20 percent of the electorate voted against Biden, instead voting “undeclared” in protest.
U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) — who played a key role in organizing the campaign — set a target of 10,000 votes. The actual result was stunning, with at least 101,436 Michigan Democrats voting “uncommitted,” good for 13.2 percent of the vote. An additional five percent went to Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) and perennial candidate Marianne Williamson.
The massive number of uncommitted voters far surpassed the margin of victory needed by then-candidate Donald Trump in 2016, who defeated Hilary Clinton by a little more than 11,000 votes.
Whitmer has urged Democrats in the state to vote for Biden in November, stating that failure to do so is a vote for former President Trump.
“It’s important not to lose sight of the fact that any vote that’s not cast for Joe Biden supports a second Trump term,” Whitmer told CNN back in February. “A second Trump term would be devastating. Not just on fundamental rights, not just on our democracy here at home, but also when it comes to foreign policy.”
She concluded her statement by repeating the “Muslim ban” lie, which refers to a travel restriction placed by the Trump Administration on a handful of Muslim-majority nations with security concerns.
Whitmer — who comfortably won re-election in 2022 — cancelled a campaign event in Dearborn last year due to planned pro-Palestine demonstrations.
