WATCH: Superstar Actress Halle Berry Publicly Exposes Gavin Newsom, Says He Shouldn’t Be President

Superstar actress Halle Berry stunned the audience at the high-profile DealBook Summit on Wednesday when she publicly blasted California Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing him of overlooking women and saying he should not become the next President of the United States.

Berry, speaking during a panel on how women are viewed in Hollywood and across America, shifted from the cultural discussion to a direct, pointed criticism of Newsom’s handling of a key women’s health bill in California. The Oscar winner argued that despite all the national talk about supporting women, the governor’s actions tell a different story.

The legislation, known as AB 432 and introduced by Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, aimed to expand and modernize menopause care in California. The bill would have ensured that healthcare plans provide recommendations for menopause-related treatment and required medical providers to undergo training in menopause care. Supporters said it would have brought overdue attention and resources to an issue affecting tens of millions of women across the country.

But Newsom vetoed the bill. Twice.

The governor rejected the measure last year and again in October, even as he has tried to elevate his national profile and position himself as a potential presidential contender in 2028. Berry clearly wasn’t impressed.

While speaking to the crowd, she pivoted directly to Newsom’s decision, saying it demonstrated exactly the kind of political blindness women are tired of.

“But the opposite of that, back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill. Not one, but two years in a row,” she said. “But that’s okay, because he’s not going to be governor forever. And with the way he’s overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us in midlife, he probably should not be our next president either. Just saying.”

Berry continued by calling for national unity on the issue and urging women across the country to step forward.

“I need every woman in this country to fight with me,” she said. “But the truth is, the fight isn’t just for women. For us women, we need men too. We need all of the leaders, every single one of you in this room. This fight needs you.”

The remarks landed even more forcefully considering that Newsom himself was in attendance at the same summit. It marked the rare moment when a Hollywood figure confronted the governor publicly and directly, challenging not just his record in California but the idea that he should ever become president.

Newsom said in October that he is “giving serious thought” to a White House run, a comment that fueled speculation that he is keeping the door open for a national campaign.
