Watch: These Potential Trump VP Picks Made “The View” Hosts Lose Their Minds
The clucking hens on ABC’s “The View” recently hosted author Maggie Haberman on their program. She’s the New York Times hack that Trump inexplicably gave multiple interviews to so that she could write a book about him and, predictably, the book in unfavorable. Now Trump is furious about what could have been avoided if he just had told the NYT hack to bugger off…
In any case, Haberman’s upcoming book, “Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America” is full of funny, interesting claims about former President Donald Trump.
One is that Trump, when he beat Covid, wanted to wear a superman shirt under his normal shirt and open that normal shirt to reveal the superman logo when he left the hospital. Alas, that didn’t happen. But it sure would have been funny and made for some terrific memes.
But, though her book is obviously biased, Haberman spent some time picking the former President’s brain, and certainly had more time with him than most Americans. And so she’s one of the few that can provide some insight into what he’s thinking, particularly about issues like who he might pick as a running mate if he runs again in 2024.
And that’s exactly what she did when appearing on “The View,” telling the far-left co-hosts, after Ana Navarro asked “So if he runs in 2024 … who do you think that he would look at as a possible running mate?”:
“There are a couple of people whose names have been mentioned. The one that actually gets mentioned the most by people close to him is Tim Scott, from South Carolina, the senator.
“And then Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who is quite possibly the next governor of Arkansas.”
Tucker Carlson, Ron DeSantis, or Steve Bannon would all be far better options. But Huckabee Sanders and Tim Scott have the benefits of being female, and black, respectively, so maybe they’d improve Trump’s appeal with those groups. Given that he does quite badly with both demographics, that’s probably the hope.
In any case, the co-hosts of “The View” lost it when Haberman told them that those two were the potential VP picks. Whoopi Goldberg started whooping with laughter as soon as Haberman mentioned Sen. Scott and then started groaning and wincing with phantom pain after Huckabee Sanders was mentioned.
Watch them go ballistic here:
IJR, giving some context as to who it is that the ladies of “The View” were freaking out about, notes that:
Scott is the only black Republican senator and only the fourth black Republican to serve in the upper chamber.
He is also the first African-American ever to serve in both Congress and the Senate, the seventh to be elected to the Senate and one of just 11 black senators ever.
[…]
Meanwhile, Sanders was the first mother to serve as White House press secretary and only the third woman ever in that role. She is well on her way to being elected as the first female governor of one of the most conservative states in the nation.
So both Huckabee Sanders and Sen. Scott are accomplished members of their demographics who would be receiving all the applause of figures like Whoopi were they Democrats being appointed by Biden for the VP slot. But they’re Republicans, so Whoopi was laughing and groaning.
Trump should choose a competent, loyal knife-fighter. Not a member of some demographic he doesn’t do well with anyway. But the reaction of “The View” shows the reality of leftie support for women and minorities; it’s about wielding power and bludgeoning the right, not actually uplifting those demographics.
