WATCH: Tiger Woods DUI Arrest Bodycam Reveals His Reaction To Crash

Newly released body camera footage is shedding light on the moments after golf legend Tiger Woods crashed his SUV in Florida last week, offering a clearer picture of what deputies encountered at the scene and why the situation quickly escalated into a DUI arrest.

The footage, released Thursday, shows Woods kneeling on a residential lawn on Jupiter Island, calmly recounting the seconds leading up to the crash. The 50-year-old golfer told deputies that he briefly took his eyes off the road.

“I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden — boom,” Woods said.

What followed, however, raised immediate concerns for law enforcement on the scene.

Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tatiana Levenar is seen in the footage conducting a sobriety evaluation before informing Woods that he was being placed under arrest.

“I do believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you’re under an unknown substance, so at this time you’re under arrest for DUI,” Levenar told him.

Woods appeared surprised by the decision.

“I’m being arrested?” he asked.

“Yes, sir,” the deputy replied.

The crash occurred on March 27 when Woods’ Land Rover struck a truck hauling a pressure-cleaning trailer before rolling onto its side. Deputies say Woods had been driving at a high speed on a residential street and attempted to pass the vehicle as it slowed to turn into a driveway. Despite the severity of the crash, no one involved suffered serious injuries, and Woods was able to exit the vehicle on his own.

After placing Woods in handcuffs, deputies conducted a search and recovered two white pills from his pocket. In the video, Woods identifies the medication.

“That’s a Norco,” he said, referring to a prescription painkiller containing hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Authorities later confirmed the substance as hydrocodone.

Woods told deputies at the scene that he had not consumed alcohol, and a Breathalyzer test reportedly showed no alcohol in his system. However, officers noted signs they believed were consistent with impairment, including sluggish movement, difficulty following instructions, and unusual eye appearance.

Bodycam audio capturing Woods’ explanation of the medications he had taken earlier in the day was partially muted in the released footage.

The situation became more complicated when Woods declined to submit to a urine test, which under Florida law can result in an additional charge. He was ultimately charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

On Tuesday, Woods pleaded not guilty to the charges. Later that evening, he released a statement announcing he would step away from competition indefinitely.

“I am stepping away to seek treatment and focus on my health,” Woods said.

The incident has drawn widespread attention not only because of Woods’ global stature in the sport, but also due to its similarities to his 2017 DUI arrest, which also involved prescription medication rather than alcohol.
