WATCH: Trump Addresses House Republicans, Gets Standing Ovation: ‘Isn’t It Nice To Win?’
President-elect Donald Trump, fresh off his win last Tuesday, took a victory lap in front of the U.S. House GOP caucus on Wednesday and received a standing ovation for his second successful election to the White House.
“Isn’t it nice to win?” he asked elated Republican lawmakers who will make up the chamber’s majority come January. “It’s nice to win, it’s always nice to win,” he added, pointing out a friend in the crowd. President-elect Trump was introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) who said on Tuesday that the GOP stands “ready to deliver” on Trump’s agenda.

His victor’s return to Washington, D.C. also affords Trump the opportunity later in the day to meet with President Joe Biden, who has promised an orderly transition of power. It’s a remarkable comeback for the 45th president after being run out of office in 2021 following the J6 riots, charged with four criminal indictments, and nearly assassinated twice. “He is the comeback king,” said Johnson before Trump’s arrival, the AP reported. “We owe him a great debt of gratitude.”
House Republicans clinched a majority of seats on Tuesday after several additional races were called in their favor. The notch gives Trump an unfettered path to enact a sweeping agenda that he has promised will touch all areas of government, including seismic changes like eliminating the federal Department of Education. Senate Republicans on Tuesday will select their majority leader for the next Congress; in the running are establishment picks John Thune (R-SD) and John Cornyn (R-TX) while Rick Scott (R-FL), a Trump acolyte with heavy backing in the MAGA movement, tries to split his opponents’ votes and come out on top.
During Trump’s first term, Johnson noted, “precious time was wasted” during the early stages of governing. “We are not going to make those mistakes again,” he said on Tuesday, according to Spectrum News. “We will be ready on day one. We are prepared this time. I told President Trump many times … we believe we could be the most consequential Congress of the modern era and he the most consequential president because we quite literally have to fix almost every metric of public policy. Everything is a mess. Everything.”
“We have a really talented Republican Conference,” Johnson said. “We’ve got really competent, capable people here. Many of them could serve in really important positions in the new administration, but President Trump fully understands and appreciates the math here.”
“People are furious that there’s an open southern border, and they want it closed,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). “People are struggling because they can’t afford to buy food or fill up their cars or pay their utility bills, and the leaders in the White House were not listening. The other side is sitting around trying to blame themselves and assign blame for their failure, but they still will not admit the real problem why Democrats were rejected at the polls last week. It was because they had no answers. They had no message to those families who were struggling.”
