WATCH: Trump Grills Top Democrat For Taking Credit On Ceasefire Deal: ‘That’s A Joke’

Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken is under fire for attempting to “steal” credit for the Trump-negotiated 20-point peace deal between Israel and Gaza, which secured the release of all living Israeli hostages who were abducted by Hamas during the October 7 attacks and brought an end to the two-year conflict.

In a lengthy X post, Blinken argued that the ceasefire was only made possible due to previous efforts undertaken by the Biden Administration. The former secretary noted that key regional partners like Turkey and Qatar have said “enough” to Hamas, adding that Iran-backed groups like Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen have been effectively de-fanged.

“It starts with a clear and comprehensive post-conflict plan for Gaza,” Blinken wrote. “It’s good that President Trump adopted and built on the plan the Biden administration developed after months of discussion with Arab partners, Israel and the Palestinian Authority.”

Blinken pointed to the brief ceasefire secured by the outgoing Biden Administration back in January, which resulted in the release of 135 hostages before the deal fell apart. He also cast doubt on the Trump Administration’s ability to secure a lasting peace.

Fox News White House correspondent asked President Trump about Blinken’s comments aboard Air Force One, as the president was making his way to the Middle East to finalize the agreement. “Everybody knows it’s a joke,” Trump said of Blinken’s comments. “Look, they did such a bad job. This should have never happened.”

“If just a decent president — not a great president like me — if a decent president were in, you wouldn’t have had the Russia-Ukraine (war),” the president added. “This was bad policy by Biden and Obama.”

Trump further chided his predecessors for “trying to take a little credit” after failed negotiations with Iran under former President Barack Obama. “That was years ago, and the mistakes were made years ago. And it was both by Biden and Obama.”

After receiving a warm welcome in Israel, Trump immediately traveled to Egypt on Monday in order to finalize the peace agreement.

Among those gathered for the summit were Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and former prime minister Tony Blair, as well as officials from Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.

The group posed for a photo in front of a banner reading “Peace 2025” before a formal signing ceremony. President Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani then formally signed the document while other world leaders were seated behind them.

“This took 3,000 years to get to this point. Can you believe it? And it’s going to hold up too. It’s going to hold up,” Trump said while signing the document.

“This is the day that people across this region and around the world have been working, striving, hoping and praying for,” he added. “With the historic agreement we have just signed, those prayers of millions have finally been answered. Together, we have achieved the impossible.”
