WATCH: Trump Hints At Reconciliation With Elon Musk

President Donald Trump had kind words for tech billionaire and former ally Elon Musk after the two had a high-profile falling out over the Trump-backed Big Beautiful Bill last month.

While speaking to reporters at a White House event alongside Apple CEO Tim Cook and a number of senior cabinet officials, Trump was asked about a recent Gallup poll that found Elon Musk as one of the most unpopular public figures in America. “I’m wondering, do you miss having him around the White House or is that poll accurate?” the president was asked.

“I don’t know if the poll is accurate. I think he’s a good person,” Trump responded. “I think he had a bad moment, really bad moment, but he’s a good person. I believe that.”

Tensions between Trump and Musk boiled over back in June when the Tesla, SpaceX and X chief shredded the Trump-backed Big Beautiful Bill, which included a number of his most important legislative items. Musk claims that he opposed the bill due to spending and debt concerns, though a number of senior administration officials have contended that Musk was irate over the loss of Biden era electric vehicle subsidies.

At one point during the feud, Musk baselessly accused Trump of being on the “Epstein list.” He later apologized the claim and deleted his post, though the accusation has since become a popular line of attack for Democrats.

After the Big Beautiful Bill was signed into law on July 4, Musk claimed that he would be starting a new political party. “If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Musk posted on June 30. “Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

The day the bill was signed into law, Musk posted a yes-or-no poll asking X users whether they would support a third party. “Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!” he wrote before posing the question. He has yet to follow through on creating the party, however, while previous reports that he had registered the project have been retracted.

Wednesday’s comments come a little under 24 hours after Musk backed President Trump’s suggestion to bring Washington D.C. under federal management due to out of control crime. The statement was made in response to the brutal beating of a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer who worked under Musk during his time in the administration.
