WATCH: Trump Hits Reporter With Hilarious Jab While Offering ‘Trump Was Right’ Hats

Fanfare for President Donald Trump’s first month in office has prompted his biggest supporters to send him their homemade swag. But the reporters around him weren’t biting when he tried to offer them a little memento of history.

Sitting in the Oval Office, Trump was amused to see that a member of MAGA nation had mailed him a stack of red hats blaring the phrase “Trump was right about everything.”

“Give me all of ’em,” Trump called to an aide, holding one of the hats up for the press pool. “See that? Trump was right about everything.”

It’s not uncommon for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to receive both love letters and hate mail for the president, but one fan’s adoration extended to a full box of “Trump was right” hats, many more than he and his staff could take home. So naturally, he offered members of the press a chance to take one home.

“You want one?” he asked an unidentified reporter in the room who quickly replied, “I’ll pass on that” before adding he was “probably not” allowed to take one.

Tossing a hat to another reporter, the president joked about the spurned scribbler, saying, “He’s sort of a stiff. He’ll take other things but not a hat.”

It was a lighthearted moment for a press pool that has been dejected lately with the Associated Press’s banishment from its ranks. On Tuesday, a federal judge rejected the outlet’s lawsuit to be let back in the Oval Office, siding with Trump’s lawyers who argued that “the president can choose who to speak with” and concluding that the AP failed to demonstrate “irreparable harm.”

In a show of strength, the White House on Wednesday booted reporters from the Huffington Post and Reuters from their pool spots and instead invited those from conservative outlets Newsmax and The Blaze to take their places, according to Politico. It’s the latest in a series of salvos between the president and the White House Correspondents’ Association, which has characterized Trump’s invitation-only press pool as an attack on the First Amendment.

However, if President Trump has reason to suspect that the reporters around him are grifters rather than sifters of facts, he can point to Jake Tapper’s new book about the cognitive decline of former President Joe Biden. On Wednesday, conservative podcaster Stephen Miller reminded his followers that it was Lara Trump who first called out the Democrat’s difficulties with pronouncements and keeping a general train of thought, earning her a rebuke from the CNN reporter. Today, however, he is cashing in on a book deal, accusing the former president of being “shockingly narcissistic, self-delusional, and reckless” in seeking a second term.

Other recent reporting, including on 20 members of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency resigning in protest, often leaves out that the individuals were legacy holdovers in place since the Obama administration. So, expect President Trump to continue putting the flaks on blast when they try to tangle with him from behind the Resolute Desk.
