WATCH: Trump Shuts Down Kaitlan Collins In Oval Office Presser: ‘That’s Why Nobody Watches CNN’

President Donald Trump took no prisoners during a press conference in the Oval Office on Thursday, clashing with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins while unveiling his administration’s sweeping plan for reciprocal tariffs. The move, which aims to match the tax rates that foreign countries impose on American imports, represents a major shake-up in U.S. trade policy.

As Trump signed the bill implementing the tariffs, Collins attempted to interject with a question about the economic impact of the policy.

“Mr. President, you’ve won the White House in part because of high inflation. If your tariffs make prices go up—” Collins began.

Trump immediately cut her off.

“Excuse me, we haven’t asked you to speak yet,” he shot back, dismissing the CNN correspondent.

“They charge us a tax or tariff and we charge them the exact same,” Trump said from the Oval Office before signing the executive bill called the “Fair and Reciprocal Plan.”

The tense exchange came as Trump rolled out his long-awaited reciprocal tariff plan, a policy designed to eliminate trade imbalances. Under the new framework, the U.S. will impose the same tariffs on foreign goods as those countries place on American exports.

The president has long railed against unfair trade practices, blaming past administrations for allowing China, the European Union, and other economic competitors to impose heavy tariffs on American products while enjoying lower duties on their own exports.

Trump teased the announcement earlier in the day on Truth Social, posting, “THREE GREAT WEEKS, PERHAPS THE BEST EVER, BUT TODAY IS THE BIG ONE: RECIPROCAL TARIFFS!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Later in the press conference, Collins pressed Trump on Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, asking whether Russian President Vladimir Putin could simply “withdraw” from the conflict.

“This should have been done by Biden years ago,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “This should have never been allowed to happen.”

“I know he’s [Biden] a friend of yours,” Trump joked to Collins. “He’s a friend of CNN. That’s why nobody watches CNN anymore, because they have no credibility.”

Without missing a beat, Trump turned to the room, brushing past Collins. “Okay, who else? Yes, please,” he said, recognizing another reporter.

Trump also said Thursday he supports Russia rejoining the G7, arguing that their removal was a mistake. “I’d love to have them back. I think it was a mistake to throw them out.”

“Look, it’s not a question of liking Russia or not liking Russia. It was the G8 and, you know, I said, ‘What are you doing? You guys, all you talk about is Russia,’ and they should be sitting at the table.”

Trump revealed Wednesday that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to begin negotiations to end the war following a “highly productive” phone call with Vladimir Putin.

“I just had a lengthy and highly productive phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects.”

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said this week that “everything is on the table ” regarding the conflict.
